Hello. I am a Catholic who has a question about Islam. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Islam teaches that Jesus was a prophet, but not the son of God. A prophet like, say, Isaiah, or Jeremiah. I don’t understand the belief for the following reason. Taken simply as historically accurate text (which may be my incorrect assumption according to Islam), the gospels claim that there existed this man named Jesus who claimed to be the son of God. Now, to me it seems that, based on his behavior, he either was the son of God, or he was a lunatic. I mean, no simply ‘‘good prophet’’ would claim to be the son of God, or on par with God. So if Islam taught that he was a nut, I would understand. Can anyone clear this up for me? I must be misunderstanding something, wheather it be how Muslims interpret the gospels or whatever. Thanks!
