Why does Jerusalem play a special part in Islam? I have forgotten, why Jerusalem is important?.

About two hundred years of Ummayad propaganda would be an accurate answer.

Shadowcry:
What propoganda do you think they have?
Propaganda intended to convince the masses that Jerusalem was the “far-off place of prayer” or whatever it was called, and thus add more legitimacy to their occupation of the Holy Land.

Apart the fact that Muslims belief the Temple Mount to be the site of Muhammads ascending to heaven in the Night Journey. It is also the site of Solomons Temple. Muslims believe Solomon to be a prophet, some Muslim traditions believe his Temple to have been constucted by the Jinn on his orders. Jerusalem is also the city of David another figure whom Muslims believe to be a prophet.

Anyway Jerusalem is and has been a site important to all three great monotheistic faith’s and could become a symbol of peace and understanding to the world,

You can see more about the attitude of the Holy See at catholicculture.org/docs/doc_view.cfm?recnum=5154

Matt. Thank you for your answer.

When there are members such as Hospitaller, who is always spewwing hate, it is encouraging to read responses like yours.

And mind you, each faith has their share of “Hospitallers”. Hopefully the praiseworthy actions of the majority can overshadow the hatred of others.

Hopefully yes. Hate makes more noise than love. Love will nonetheless prevail. God is Love.

Peace be with you

Hadith report muhammad ride a horse winged from Masjid’ ul Haram to Masjid ul Aqsa (in Jerusalem) then to the seventh heaven, shown hell and paradise and taken to the presence of god.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 636:
Narrated Abu Dhaar:
I said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Which mosque was built first?” He replied, “Al-Masjid-ul-Haram.” I asked, “Which (was built) next?” He replied, “Al-Masdji-ul-Aqs-a (i.e. Jerusalem).” I asked, “What was the period in between them?” He replied, "Forty (years)." He then added, “Wherever the time for the prayer comes upon you, perform the prayer, for all the earth is a place of worshipping for you.”

Masjid’ul Haram (ka’ba) was allegedly built by Abraham. He live around 2000 BC and Temple of Salomon (the site of Masjid ul Aqsa) was built around 958-951 BC. there is 1040 years gap in between… a mistake?

MEMRI is an Israeli propaganda outfit see answers.com/topic/middle-east-media-research-institute

According to MEMRI’s original (1998) site, the backgrounds of some of its higher-ranking staff are as following:

Col. (Res.) Yigal Carmon is MEMRI’s President. He served in the IDF/Intelligence Branch from 1968 to 1988. From 1977 to 1982 he was the Acting Head of Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria and the Advisor on Arab Affairs to the Civil Administration. Following Col. Carmon’s retirement from the IDF he was Advisor to Premiers Shamir and Rabin for Countering Terrorism from 1988 to 1993. In 1991 and 1992 he was a senior member of the Israeli Delegation to peace negotiations with Syria in Madrid and Washington.

Yotam Feldner is MEMRI’s Director of Media Analysis. He was born in Kibbutz Gazit, Israel and served in the IDF in Military Intelligence where he acquired fluency in Arabic and familiarity with Arab media. He earned a BA in History and English Language and Literature from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Aluma Solnick is a Research Associate with MEMRI. She was born in Jerusalem and served in the IDF in Military Intelligence. She earned a BA in Arabic Language and the History of the Middle East from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She is presently completing her MA in Arab Language and Literature from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

So one might doubt fair this organisation is likely to be towards Muslims and Islam especially re Israel.

For the sake of the initial query of this thread. I’d like to say that the people back then were very smart. What would be the use of laying all claims about the God of that land (Jerusalem) if there is no physical connection with it.

They knew that with Mecca only they would never succeed as their claims of the God of that land would look futile for the later generations. It would also pose a greater risk for it to be a totally new religion, devoid of any substance pertaining to the widely accepted faith of the time. I mean if Muhammed ever started anything new/original totally unconnected to Judaism or Christianity, I doubt anyone would believe him.

I see you’ve yet to learn that “fair” and “truth” are not the same concept.

What amazes me most about this post is the fact that it has NOTHING to do with the quality of its translations of the putrid filth eminating from PLO-funded and approved Imams who preach from Arab/muslim occupied Jerusalem (and elsewhere in the freedom loving middle east).

I know people like you think me saying this is hate, but if you want to see hate, go to a mosque in the M.E., or perhaps witness and honor killing, or review video tapes of dancing in the streets in the muslim world on 9-11. Keep singing kumbaya as they continue marching on.

By the way, are you insinuating by your “analysis” of the MEMRI organization’s staff that Jews who serve the state of Israel or IDF militarily/intelligence capacity to defend itself against aggressive expansionist hate filled muslim countries somehow is biased and untrustworthy?

As the old saying goes, I love jews as long as they don’t defend themselves. Pretty soon you voluntary dhimmis will apply the same principle to yourselves I’m afraid.

The PLO funds Imams? Really where can I read up on that? Or have you just made it up?

Who is this "they" that are marching on? All the worlds Muslims? All the worlds Arabs? Whom are you insulting here be more specific? BTW you can see plenty of pictures of Muslims mourning the deaths of September 2001 but I guess you have never looked for them have you?

I am suggesting that people who worked for the intelligence service of the Israeli State are unlikely to provide unbiased information about Muslims or Arabs. What exactly is a hate filled Muslim country? If Muslims are so wicked does that not mean that the US will inevitably fail in its Iraqi project?

You might say that if you like, it seems a little odd though. If Israel wants to live safely and securely within internationally recognised borders it needs to find a better strategy than war without end against its Arab neighbours. The day will come when the US stops bankrolling it. If it hasn’t found a way to life in peace by then it may be too late. I would regret that. The Holy Land should be a place where Christians Muslims and Jew’s live together in peace.

Oh, and my biased 2 cents on the whole Jerusalem thing.

Islam claiming Jerusalem for itself follows a similar pattern of how Islam claims a little bit of everything it competes with to usurp and overpower. For example,

Quran tries to usurp the Jews and their claims (religious and territorial) by saying essentially you got the characters right but you messed up the whole revelation. WE got it right, we’re the correct religion. We’ll even pray towards Jerusalem to try to convince you! Oh yea, Jerusalem had a Mosque in it when Mohammed died even though Islam hadn’t yet conquered Jerusalem from the CHRISTIAN empire.

Quran then incorporates what amounts to an amalgam of Gnostic/heretical gospels and inserts Jesus into it. Even enticing Christians of the areas it colonized with “Miriam” and venerating her. But of course we got the whole Christ thing wrong, they got it right! Dhimmi time!

Some paganism stolen from the moon god Allah replaced in Mecca was the icing on the cake for the original people subjected to the religion.

They undercut covenantal claims, religious claims, historical claims, geographic claims all in an effort to usurp Christianity, Judaism, and the land both groups inhabited.

Unfortunately, their claim on Jerusalem serves 1 purpose. To prevail.

I’ll only reply to this, since the rest of the post implies a bit of hopelessness.

Perhaps Israel would find a way to live in peace with the Arab neighbors if they would stop invading it and hosting terrorist organizations to launch cross boarder strikes against it. But I guess the 5 against 1 war of 1948, the defensive Sinai war of 53, defensive preemptive war of 1967, the repelling of 1973 invasion, the terrorist attrition wars in-between ALL of those official wars, and of course the PLO war against Israel in the late 70’s and 80’s requiring and invasion of Lebanon (of course after the PLO ruined the CHRISTIAN country), show Israel is the one at fault.

We don’t “bankroll” them anymore than we “bankrolled” the right sides in World War 2. We help the 1 semblance of a free society against a sea of enemies that have attacked it unmercifully for its entire existence. Or perhaps you think 4 million Jews are oppressing 300 million Arabs.

I changed my mind…

Your ignorance of the topic doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

I didn’t say we have problems with Muslims who didn’t mourn. We have problems with Muslims in general OVER THERE. Plus, Mr Strawman, I didn’t say Muslims didn’t mourn, or that there weren’t pics of them doing so. Islam in general is on the march as they were in Europe until the 17th century (sept 11th is anniversary of the Polish saving Europe btw), spearheaded by the soldiers as all causes/wars are. Mongols were on the march in 13th century, even though most Mongols (even moderate ones) stayed home.

So you’re saying if you’re Jewish/Israeli and you serve in the Intelligence or Military (as most have to there), you no longer can say anything that is true? Again, they aren’t giving “information about Muslims”, they’re translating and analyzing what’s in print and broadcast. You might not like the conclusions. But you imply some Jewish conspiracy here.

Besides, the actions of Muslim nations surrounding Israel, the tactics they employ in battle simply confirm everything they say and show the depth of their depravity. MEMRI would be an obvious fraud if the filth the Imams were speaking in their translations were not followed up by pregnant women and children suicide bombers, and desecrated synagogues in Gaza and patriarch tombs that get burned.
