Why do Muslims claim Jerusalem?

Lebanon is not a Christian country. It is a country with a substantial population of Christians, Muslims and Druze. The Holy Father John Paul II said in Redemptionis Anno

Since Israel posseses the largest army by far in the Middle East, bankrolled by the USA, and the Palestinians no army at all it is quite feasible for them to be oppressed.

I think we’re all aware he meant Arab Muslims, who have shown little inclination that I’m aware of to respect other religions in the Holy Land.

I wonder if as long as Islam insists upon claiming the entire world as its possession through the notions of dar al Islam and dar al harb if any place on earth is free from the claim that Islam owns everthing? I would hope that someday American Muslims and other Muslims of a more irenic nature will assist in making Jerusalem a city of peace. It would be grand.

You never addressed the wars (6-day, etc) that Israel had to fight in self defense. The arabs want Israel eradicated.

If Islam ever takes control of the Holy Land, it is my firm belief that it will become like Saudi Arabia and no muslems will not be allowed in.

When the Arabs last controled Jerusalem.They wouldn’t let Jews visit their holy places,thats history. When an Islamic Empire Ruled Israel it often interfered with the lives of christians there. So many people have much to loose if Arabs control Jerusalem.
Being An Arab christian in Palestine.Doesn’t necessarily mean your behaviour is any diferent than a Muslim.

Apart the fact that Muslims belief the Temple Mount to be the site of Muhammads ascending to heaven in the Night Journey. It is also the site of Solomons Temple. Muslims believe Solomon to be a prophet, some Muslim traditions believe his Temple to have been constucted by the Jinn on his orders. Jerusalem is also the city of David another figure whom Muslims believe to be a prophet.

Anyway Jerusalem is and has been a site important to all three great monotheistic faith’s and could become a symbol of peace and understanding to the world,

For the life of me I dont know why Muslims need Jerusalem when you already have Medina and Mecca. Im sorry but if Jerusalem belongs to anyone it surely belongs to the Jews. This is the ancient city of Israeli history. Islam didnt begin until mid first millenium CE. To many Israelis the Temple on the Mount is a defilement to the original site of Solomons Temple. (Islam didnt exit back then).
