If Christ’s Church could be in error, regarding His truth, why did he teach the multitudes and His Apostles to obey those who sat in the chair of Moses?

Mat 23:1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
Mat 23:2 Saying: The scribes and the Pharisees have sitten on the chair of Moses.
Mat 23:3 All things therefore whatsoever they shall say to you, observe and do: but according to their works do ye not. For they say, and do not.

Interesting tidbit about the chair of Moses…how did the people know what Christ was talking about? The chair of Moses is not written about anywhere else in scriptures. Must have been they knew it through the oral tradition…

I find it telling that you fail to look at the words used for house of God and Church. These are clearly relating to an individual congregation. ** If you look at my post below, it’s not clear you have the correct understanding. Besides, the CC is not one house; it’s made up of lots of houses all over the world.**
oikos—a house, dwelling

ekklēsia—assembly, a religious congregation.

Now, you can claim what you will but your logic falls short. God is not a God of confusion correct and He can not be directing all of the different beliefs in all of the different congregations. It is absolutely not possible to say so.

What else ?

Here’s more on the house of God.

1 Peter 2:
1 ¶ Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,
2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 ¶ Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,
5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”
8 and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

It’s a spiritual house; the Spirit is said to be invisible.

this is the sort of theological back flips that become necessary when doctrines are made up for reasons other than their intrinsic truth in scripture. this stuff would never have gotten off the ground if the common man had had his own Bibles. by the time the common man was able to question such errors the RCC was committed to them.
Mat. 1 18-24
Then I take it that your personal Holy Spirit has told you that YHWH made a great big oops with his timing of The Word Made Flesh.

You misunderstand. What the poster is referring to, IMO, is that the common person didn’t have a Bible until after Gutenburg invented the printing press in the 1440’s.

And you thought you had a live one by the tail.😃

I think that maybe your view of the Catholic Church is incorrect. We do not see ourselves as many individual congregations. We see ourselves as ONE UNITED congregation. These definitions that you provided fit perfectly with that understanding. Thanks! 👍

According to my Strong’s dictionary, ekklesia means:

assembly, church.

From a compound of ek and a derivative of kaleo; a calling out, i.e. (concretely) a popular meeting, especially a religious congregation (Jewish synagogue, or Christian community of members on earth or saints in heaven or both) – assembly, church.

THis hardly appears to be a bunch of individuals scattered throughout the world. 🤷

You have many buildings (houses). You said it referred to a single house, didn’t you? Maybe I misunderstood you.

We’re making no progress as usual.😦

I said individual congregation.
You mean individual congregations like, the church at Ephesis, the church at Corinth, or the churches in Galatia? What about the church that met in homes like Aquila and Priscilla.

I still do, Dokimas. Because I don’t think that you are correct, of course that’s just my opinion 😃
