It doesn’t matter. The Scriptures do not paint any picture other than Mary and Joseph having a normal marriage. Prove otherwise please.
Giving birth to GOD is NORMAL???

Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant. God was in her womb! She was the holy of holies of the New Testament. No one goes into the Holy of holies.

“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” The same could be true for his folks.

Justy, under Jewish law, it would have been up to the next oldest sibling to care for the mother, HAD there been any other siblings…
You’re whole premise for Catholic theology regarding Mary is bogus. The Bible speaks of Joseph not having relations with Mary UNTIL Jesus was born. It also speaks several times about the siblings of Jesus both brothers and sisters and even names them. You cannot refute what Scripture says. You cannot refute God’s word. All you can do is the same old song and dance of questioning interpretation and Bible version. It’s a sham. Scripture is clear. In the early days of Christianity, the Roman church persecuted who they believed to be heretics based upon what they expected the alleged heretics to understand in Scripture. This is nonsensical baloney and you know it. This whole thing isn’t about God’s words of truth, its about your agenda and how that truth doesn’t fit into it.

You are misunderstanding why I posted what i did. I am refuting the idea that the term “knew her not” indicates that they had sex after Jesus was born. The term is used to establish that she had not previously had sex, begfore or during pregnancy. It in no way indicates she had sex afterwards.
The stretch is how you do not accept what the Bible says regarding this. It doesn’t fit the Catholic agenda.

This subject has been brought up so many times and Matthew 1:25 never explained except that knew her not did not mean sex. Now what did Joseph do say oh Hi I sure am glad to know you?

Prodigal Son,

I don’t thing it’s wrong at all to ask for someone else. But how can she hear a million prayers at once, continually? Does she have God’s power? And how do you know this?

Respectfully,

Chris
We’re talking about someone eternally alive in heaven, without any time constraints we live under on earth. Mary is not a divinity, she is the mother of our Lord.

Heb 12:1 And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us:

Isn’t it a fundamental belief that should have some scriptural basis other than just a “we believe”? To grant Mary this status and power without anything to back it up is very presumptuous. I think of all the prayers in the New Testament and 99% were straight to God. Maybe one was to Jesus right? So again, I am trying to answer this forum’s question. It’s not that we dislike her. Just lack understanding that has yet to be explained.

Respectfully,

Chris
Have you read all of the posts in this thread? If not, I suggest you do. You will then be in a position to make a knowledgable decision on what Catholics believe regarding Mary. It is outlined very well.

Exactly. The whole point here is that the Bible never suggests that Joseph and Mary didn’t have a normal marriage. Catholic theology is the one here trying to end-around the Scriptures.

When you say our whole premise is bogus, are you approaching this discussion with charity, or are you using ad hominem worded statements intended to agitate or inflame those with differing opinions?

I really wish you’d read back through this whole thread and not make us repeat each and every post already posted.

If you tell your children to behave until you get home, do you mean they can misbehave once you get home? No. You’re trying to read through today’s language barriers.

lf you read Numbers 30, you’ll see it’s quite possible for a married woman to be under a vow of abstinence.

Amen to that.

I asked this to another poster but he has failed to answer it. Maybe you would care to.

Do you ever call your Christian siblings, brother? If so, is it because they are your biological brothers?

Let’s look at this another way. If God is believers Father and Jesus is God’s Son then we are all Jesus’ brothers and should be called that. Are we all bilogically related to Jesus? Did Mary give birth to all of us?

Actually, you’re mistaken. This is a Catholic forum and we know what we believe. Visitors of different faiths are here diputing our interpretation of scriptures. That’s what this is, interpretational differences. Now, please tell me, does one believing the mother of our Lord remained a virgin have any impact on one’s salvation? Why is it so important a subject to ‘attack’?

How is it that some people can not believe it is possible that she remained ever-Virgin? The biblical word “until” is vague and not definite.

Old Testament writing of Eve, the Ark of the Covenant, the temple, and other images indicate that she was perpetually virginal.

St. Augustine said that "the New Testament lies hidden in the Old and the Old is fulfilled in the New."

Prodigal Son,

You misquoted that scripture. Please reread. You wrote it as if the witnesses lay aside. It doesn’t read that way.

Izoid,

I understand that you believe that Mary can hear every prayer that goes to her. I don’t need to read every post for that do I? I’m still wondering where she gets that power. And I would love something more than just “we believe”. I’m not being disrespectful, just asking about scriptural basis to this belief. It’s not a fight, just giving you the average Protestant’s view of Mary. I don’t get it.

Respectfully,

Chris

That big, bad, Catholic agenda that people stop sinning and make it to heaven, and take as many people with us as we can…
🤷

My friend, the great cloud of witnesses is universally understood as the saints who have gone before us and are already in heaven cheering (praying) us on.

It is the sin that we are to lay aside.

We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. This is not the Biblical point being made here. Scripture speaks of brothers and sisters in a spiritual sense and it also speaks of the siblings of Christ and calls his brothers by name. It also names some of his brothers in several different verses in the NT.

Look I think for you it is great what you believe. No it does not affect my Salvation on iota. I thought this was supposed to be a debate?
