As the Jews argued among themselves saying, ‘‘How can this man give us His flesh to eat?,’’ Jesus explained what He meant in greater detail. The main verse under dispute is: ‘‘Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, you have no life in you’’ (John 6:53).
In a clear reference to His death, the Lord Jesus also stated in this chapter that He would give His flesh for the life of the world (v51). But according to Roman Catholicism, the disciples were given the flesh of Christ to eat in the Upper Room, before Jesus ever went to Calvary, thus confusing and obscuring the real work accomplished by Christ on the cross.
Nope. God is outside of time. The Jews made sacrifices before Jesus died on the Cross, but they were effectual, odviously.
If people have to literally eat the flesh of Christ to be saved, only a small number could ever have qualified for the actual flesh of Christ would have all been consumed some 1,900 years ago. Yet Christ told us to repeat the Lord’s Supper often and remember Him regularly — an impossibility if the eating and drinking is literal.
Huh? This is juvenile!!! :nope:
As the Lord summarizes His teaching in John 6, He states ‘‘the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life’’ (John 6:63). Even if a Priest could give the Lord’s flesh to a communicant, it would profit nothing.
This is absolute heresy!!! Christ’s Body and Blood saved us on the Cross!!!
You certainly don’t agree with this, Solafide!!! Whenever flesh and spirit are contrasted, they mean to contrast the sin nature with the graceful nature. This is odvious from all the other biblical passages that state this in the Bible.
The scriptures are silent on many issues that are of vital importance to the Roman Catholic Church relating to transubstantiation. Because Rome teaches the bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Christ, anything left over after the Mass has to be treated with the utmost care. Each crumb of bread and drop of wine is part of Christ’s literal body. After the Mass, the leftovers have to be kept in a small immoveable safe called a tabernacle. A lamp is kept burning in the sanctuary whenever Jesus is ‘eucharistically present’ in the tabernacle. That is also why upon entering a Church or even driving by in a car, a Roman Catholic may make the sign of the cross or genuflect, as a sign of respect. These particulars are outlined in the 1996 Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraphs 1183, 1378 and 1379. Where is all of this in scripture? Where is the record of any of the apostles doing this or commanding it to be done by others?
This isn’t even worth the time refuting
After Christ completed the work of redemption, He sat down at the right hand of the Father. There He waits until His enemies become the footstool of His feet (Heb 10:12-13). Yet according to Roman Catholicism, Christ is rising from His throne tens of thousands of times each day, coming to earth and being re-presented to His Father as a true propitiatory victim for the sins of souls in purgatory and on earth. Thus the error of the Roman Catholic Mass and its core doctrine of transubstantiation is a great offence to heaven and a blasphemy against the finished work of Christ.
This is a monstrous distortion of the Roman Catholic doctrine; it need not be refuted. All in all, these arguements are completely unconvincing…

Please, I am going through RCIA to become Catholic. Give me your best shot. If you convince me, I will become Protestant again.

Hi

Only because it is only superstition, and superstition is not a mark of steadfastness of one’s religion but it shows weakness of one’s conception.

Thanks

I don’t know if a Biblical quote would be sufficient for you, since you are not a Christian. But for Bible Christians, Jesus says in the Bible: John 6:16-61: Notice that the Jews found this HARD TO BELIEVE, and many left. Jesus did not run after them and say, “No, wait, that’s not what I really meant…It’s only a SYMBOL”

16 Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’"
32
So Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
33
For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34
So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
35
17 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.
41
The Jews murmured about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven,”
42
and they said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
43
Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop murmuring among yourselves.
44
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day.
45
It is written in the prophets: ‘They shall all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.
46
Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.
47
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.
48
I am the bread of life.
49
Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;
50
this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.
51
I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
52
The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?”
53
**Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
55
For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
56
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
57
Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. **58
This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
59
These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
60
20 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?"
61
Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you?

27Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28This is my blood of the** covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.” **

Mark 14:22-24:

22While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”

23Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it.

This is very, very offensive to Christians. It is Blasphemy to refer to the Eucharist as superstitious. Yet I do not condemn you.

If Jesus was not speaking symbolically but literally then He would be advocating a form of canabalism. There is alot going on in this passage that causes the Jews to struggle with what He is teaching them. For one He is comparing Himself with Moses who was there great leader and with God Himself. This was quite a jolt to say the least.

Oh, so you’re a symbolic canabal, then? 😛

LOL, you must’ve not taken a close look at the Scriptural text. Besides, St.Paul calls the Eucharist the participation in the Lord’s Body and Blood. So, deny as you will, it’s plainly in scripture. :coffeeread:

I recently heard a talk from a Mormon leader in which he stated the Mormons reject the idea that Christ is truly present in the Bread and Water during their sacrament meeting. I have heard Prostestants of various stripe make the same claim – the Lord’s Supper is simply a memorial meal and the body and blood of Christ aren’t really there.
Protestants have bread and wine and catholics have Body and Blood:) How can they prove that Jesus gave us only bread and wine? What’s the point in celebrating just bread and wine?

Metaron;3079518]Oh, so you’re a symbolic canabal, then? 😛
What are you saying then? Is the bread and wine actually Christ?

What do you mean by participation?

Just a point. Cannibalism is eating of one’s own kind. Jesus is God so it’s not really cannibalism as we do not share the divine substance of God being human and all. Though I guess if you get down to the nuts and bolts Jesus is truly human and truly God. We are truly human only. The Eucharist is Christ so it too is a complete duality of human and divine. Given the additional divine nature in my opinion it can not be really considered cannibalism. 🤷

Just had a heretical thought, God forgive me, but I can’t help chuckling at it. “If Jesus is human and divine, and the Eucharist is both I just won’t eat the human part of the Eucharist, I’ll eat around it” I sooo dearly hope God has a sense of humor.
