i think catholics are so used to dealing with protestant differences that when they see orthodoxy, they just see the similarites and not the differences which are few; we share far more than we legitimately differ.
i think orthodox affirm their traditions by contrasting themselves against the latin rite catholic church, the largest of the apostolic churches. it’s a way to protect their ancient and venerable traditions.
