Why do other Churches always bash Catholic Faith

Many places have extremely little history and no standard set of dogmas from one church to the next.
It is easier to define themselves by what they are not as there is very little of what they actually are.

I don’t think so. I think being Anti-Catholic means hating the Catholic Church and everyone in it with an intense passion. For instance, Queen Elizabeth Tudor could be considered an anti-catholic because she tortured Catholic Priests to death and made it illegal for people to refuse to belong to the church her father founded.

My wife told me to do the same thing, but she thinks I’m right. IDK, we’ve bounced back and forth between two Parish’s due to the way they both look upon non-Catholics…I’m just getting to the “whatever” stage. If my family goes to church…I’ll go, but besides that…whatever.

It’s getting tough because they also expect us (non-Catholics) to be active in Family Faith Formation (in my opinion, with the end goal we’ll convert), but besides that they prefer we’re not part of the “Parish Life”.
All of this is entirely foreign to me. I’ve never seen or heard any of the behaviours you describe.

I’m sorry I’m so confused. What was bad about him asking if you found a church yet?
It seems like a normal question for a priest to ask in preparation for a sacrament requiring parents to raise a child as a Catholic.
Am I missing something?
My wife and kids had been a member of that church for some 2 or 3 years. He asked my wife if “I” have found another church to go to yet, sounding like I should rather be going someplace else on Sundays.

Ya, you aren’t the first person to tell me that…¯_(ツ)_/¯

I could almost write a book on some of the “Is this real?” moments my neighbor (In a mixed marriage, wife is a member of the same Parish) have had.

Perhaps he presumed you would seek a church matching the faith of your upbringing? Nevertheless, such would be a clumsy question to ask.

Huh? I didn’t call you anything. I said you experienced seem entirely foreign to me.
I know… You ain’t the first person to tell me that this is something they’ve never seen or experienced… I’ve run into at two Parishes though.

Yep, that’s totally possible. The context of the question didn’t seem as such. She also found it odd that we she told him no, he didn’t say something about TC always being welcome here. He just kinda moved on.

I think it’s wise not to get too scholastic with our definitions, don’t you?

Hmm. I know non-Catholics who go to Mass. No one is rude to them. It’s really no one’s business, and anyone who wants to go to Mass can of course attend.

Maybe because we have people who think Hell exists on Venus, or that it’s practicable to pour holy water on the front lawn in a blessing for souls in Purgatory, or that Original Sin is transmitted through semen.

cute. But it is a very real question, as I have been in discussions where just rejecting Catholic positions got one labeled “anti-Catholic.”

I am ok with Orthodox Christians rejecting Catholic positions. I don’t always like to hear about the details of that 24/7. I don’t make it a point to tell a Protestant I think he or she is heterodox because they reject the Eucharist. I go out of my way not to talk about ‘sensitive issues’. This is not to say I don’t think Protestants are heterodox because they reject the Eucharist. It is a rejection of Christ. But if I say that or even reference it to an Evangelical I am just going to start a dispute, alienate him/her. I would rather try and find common ground. Steer clear of the elephants in the room.

I feel like Orthodox Christians always start in on me about the Pope. (I actually agree with a lot of it myself; don’t need to hear it; this never occurs to them as a possibliity.) The Pope is maybe (at least to me) one tenth of what it means to be a Catholic. The Orthodox think it is everything. They project a straw man onto Catholics. (they are infinitely more obsessed with ‘scholastic’ theology and abuses of logic than any Catholic I think I’ve met and/or read in my life, and that includes Thomas Aquinas, who, incidentally, did NOT think you could know God through logic) Nine tenths is about Scripture, Tradition, the Liturgy, the Liturgical Calendar, the Sacraments, prayer, the Rosary, the Saints, the Church Fathers. I get that a lot of the history of the Church is problematic - schismatic between East and West. Because I know all that and worked out my opinion on all of that years ago, it bores and irritates me when people start in on it. Same with Catholics trying to get the Orthodox back in line with the Pope. Drives me up the wall. Enough already. Let it be. Treat the Orthodox with respect as the Orthodox. This is just my opinion mind you. Full disclosure I am half Orthodox/half Catholic - make that 65/35 Orthodox.

Rau we are in Australia.

The more I read what’s happening in Parishes in the states, the more thankful I am. 2 of the churches I attend still have Altar rails.

I’m so sorry, and know that I’m praying for you.

I guess I don’t understand why you have to be lonely. According to the info provided, there are nice women in your own parish. They are much older than you are, but I’m unclear on why that matters enough that you would endure loneliness rather than cultivate friendships with them.

Imo there is a huge difference between someone who is anti-Catholicism, and a non-Catholic…

I have many non-Catholic friends who do not agree with our beliefs, but are respectful of them. Whereas someone who is ANTI-Catholicism, bears false witness against the Church even after having been corrected as to what it is that we believe in.
