Why do people deny the Holocaust?

Following are some of the reasons, some fall under several:
  1. They are uneducated
  2. They are too lazy to educate themselves about the true extent of the horror
  3. They are bigoted
  4. They have been fed lies by holocaust deniers, some people are undiscerning about where they get their information from.
  5. They don’t want to think or believe that people, human beings could be so cruel to other human beings
  6. They don’t believe that many people in a nation could behave that way while the silent many in the same nation looked away, did what they could to survive and/or help the refugees.
Evil prospers when good men do nothing

Because there are no German government documents ordering such a thing. The evidence for it is lacking and propagandistic (much of it is based off of Soviet accounts). The official story has changed (it was originally claimed that Jewish victims were made into lampshades and bars of soap while their heads were shrunken) and its death-toll lowered tremendously. The fact that it is illegal to deny it in some places and its prominence in political propaganda (it is always invoked to support Zionism) only further raises suspicion. Many will accuse deniers of the Holocaust of “anti-semitism”, but that is a ridiculous claim. There may be some deniers who hold anti-Semitic views, but for the most part, it is people interested in the truth. In fact, I can show you plenty of rabbis who deny it.

The Germans certainly sent the Jews to labor camps, but the idea of exterminating them was never passed around. The “Final Solution” was the complete expulsion of the Jewish population from Europe. Ultimately, the Holocaust is another example of history written by victors, Had the Germans conquered the US, perhaps the story of American genocide against the Japanese in internment camps would be the one of prominence.
 
Anybody who denies it is just ignorant, If you believe there is a lack of evidence ask someone who was in a death camp.
 
I think part of the reason is because a lot of what we hear about when it comes to the holocaust is just numbers. People hear “6 million people were killed in extermination camps.” but all that is, is a number. We forget that these were actual people that had children, parents, brothers, sisters, and could feel and understand love and hate. The holocaust is remembered by many people I have met, as just a number. That’s why I feel it’s so easy to deny the holocaust, because what does “6 million” mean to most people? Absolutely nothing.

The documentary The Last Days of the Big Lie shows the accounts of many people who were in the so-called “death camps”. All of these accounts contain inconsistencies - revealing their fabricated nature. Claiming to be a survivor can make one a very wealthy person…

Some of the little publicized accounts also mention the play productions, symphonies, and soccer matches that took place at Auschwitz.

What about Josef Mengele’s horrific experiments on twins, that also occurred at Auschwitz?

If it was such a big lie then why did so many nazis run to South America, and what about US soldiers that found the camps who to this very day still need electroshock therapy and other treatments to help them deal with what they saw in the extermination camps.

It’s not a matter of “wanting to believe”: the human mind can go into shock in accepting that human beings can commit such savagery on such a scale, and in a society otherwise considered enlightened and humane.

Ask any two or three people to remember some event that happened to the both of them and they’ll give you two or three stories that are generally the same but with a few inconsistencies. It has to do with how the human mind remembers. We ARE NOT like computers that save a perfect copy of what happened into our brains. We remember each event separately - the smells, sights, feelings - and recall and interpret them based on our current state of mind each time we remember them.

In other words, if two people have the same exact story, it’s either happened very, very, very recently - within minutes - or they’re reciting a story.
 
As a professional historian, I can tell you in a professional capacity that there is probably no other event in the twentieth century for which there is MORE evidence being true than the Holocaust.
 
People deny The Holocaust for all of the reasons mentioned.

Sadly, others sometimes believe them, just as there are those who deny that HIV causes AIDS, or are certain all of the manned moon missions were staged, etc.

It is also equally unfortunate that in some cases, once people get these ideas in their heads, no amount of proof will convince them otherwise.

This is a cutout from an essay I wrote for a text comparison, it sort of applies in the same way to the holocaust I think:
We often hide ourselves from the fact that rape and various other sexual abuses happen; we try to conclude that these things are rare. Our minds tend to reject the reality of unthinkable crimes that occur in our own society. We are not used to processing such horrible information into our own reality.

The so–called lack of German documents ordering the Holocaust is part of the big lie denying the existence of this horrible era.
There are in existence Third Reich documents concerning the Holacaust from its inception at the Wansee conference, which was led by Heidrich, to the very end when the various camps were ordered destroyed by Nazi authorities (SS) in Berlin.
In addition, the fact that many of the camps were in areas captured by Soviet Union forces has nothing to do with whether or not extermination camps existed…two of the most notorious Belsen and Dachau were liberated and photo documented by American and British forces. In fact, there is a film showing Eisenhower and Patton inspecting the camps while bulldozers were pushing hundreds of corpses into burial pits.
If you visit Poland, a visit to Auschwitz will make a believer of you. If you visit nearby Birkenau, and stand in front of the boulder monument memorializing the camp, you will be standing in a field that originally was a swamp that was filled in with human ash from the crematories of Auschwitz and Birknau…you can pull up a clump of grass and actually see bone dust in the dirt!
And Yes, not only was human fat used to make soap in a couple of the caps, Ilse Koch, the wife of the Comandant of Auschwitz was convicted of having tattooed prisoners murdered so she could have lampshades and book covers made from their skin. She also had a shrunken head made.
She was convicted of war crimes by a joint American and Brittish court and spent the rest of her life in the Womens Prison in Aichach, Bavaria. These bizarre items still exist, but are not on public exhibition.
The Holocaust deniers fall into two categories: unregenarate American and European bigots for whom anti-semitism is almost a religion, and anti-zionist Mid-Easterners (Arabs) who want to deny any reason for the existance of the state of Isreal.

Well the Nazis ran because they lost the war. This is not uncommon throughout history as conquering powers typically prosecute and sentence the leaders of the conquered nation. Many US confederates did the same thing following the surrender at Appomattox.

The conditions in the camps towards the end of the war were quite horrible, so I could understand why some might need therapy. The Allies had consistently bombed German railroads and bridges. In many cases, this shut off supply lines to the labor camps. Unable to get food and medical supplies, many of the Jews starved and experienced epidemics of various sicknesses.

Out of curiosity, who are these American soldiers and what camps did they liberate? I ask because I know of several soldiers who have made up tales of camp liberation all for the sake of profit (via book selling and public speaking).
 
It can be expected in our world. Admission of guilt is not that easy. So also is talking about it. It takes one to be Catholic to be able say “mea culpa.”

A lot of it is that Jew-haters (or any haters really) seem to have a need to see themselves as victims. So, the Second World War was the result of a ‘Jewish Conspiracy’ against Germany, the loss of the war was because of ‘Jewish Plutocrats and Jewish Bolsheviks’ and then the world has been hoodwinked by the ‘Holohoax’ into believing that it was the people fighting the naughty, naughty, naughty Jews who were naughty rather than the naughty, naughty, naughty Jews.
