Why do people have a problem with modestly-dressed women?

I cover all the time and dress modestly, as do many other Catholic women I know. Why is it that so many people, mainly other women, take such offense to this and what is the problem with this? We do not claim to be better than other women or do it to make a scene or to distract people. It is simply done out of devotion and obedience to God. So what is it really that bothers men or women that we are doing this?

I suppose it depends on what you mean by your statement, “I cover all the time and dress modestly.” If your “coverings” are extremely disproportionate to the popularly-accepted standards of modesty, that may provoke curiosity and comment. But you are not required to satisfy such curiosity or to discuss – much less defend – your preferred dressing habits with strangers. Anyone who is being deliberately obnoxious either should be pointedly ignored or reported to the nearest authority figure. The merely curious may be coolly told, “I’m sorry, but I don’t discuss my appearance.”
