Why do people make it seem like a sin for mothers to work?

also, why is cahotlic piety seemingly based on how many children one has. I’m tired of people telling me I’m spoiled because I’m basically an only child and only children are selfish because they don’t know how to share, etc…
What’s wrong with a healthy amount of selfishness?
  • You learn to put your foot down.
  • You become harder to manipulate.
  • You learn better negotiation skills because you’re not afraid to put forth your own interests.
  • And in the long run, people respect your boundaries more often without you telling them.
As the eldest of four, I’m certainly proud to have just three siblings that think independently enough to have a mature conversation with and not make me feel like I’m herding a bunch of hapless goslings.

trust me, out of everyone in my family, I’m not the one that really needs it.
angell1, I’d suggest (without malice) that you tend to use this forum as therapy. That’s fine - there are many wise and compassionate people here who are helping you work through things. But as others have suggested, some personal therapy may be of great benefit. Even informally - eg if a priest or nun from your parish could spend some time talking through things with you. I think a computer screen can only bring you so much consolation; personal interactions may offer something that helps supplement the great advice you receive here.

Oh, agree with them. Mary and Joseph and Zechariah and Elizabeth obviously raised spoiled self-centered little brats. All Catholics know that!
