The women can no longer have children, so why can’t they have sex

Dear friend,

Sex has a context. Unlike our culture’s prevailing attitude that sex exists primarily as entertainment, the Church teaches that it has a far more profound mission. Sexuality exists as a sign of the love that Christ has for His people. It is a means of conveying love. There is no more intimate physical expression of the total giving of one person to another than through such intercourse. A total giving can’t be for a night or a week or a month; it’s total. Such a total commitment is what marriage is. Age has nothing to do with it. Such expression is only honest and appropriate in marriage.

I encourage you to read “Good News About Sex and Marriage” by Christopher West, available through shop.catholic.com or by phone: 888 291 8000.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
