Is their anything in the bible that justifies the way a priest should dress? Where did they come up with the idea to dress the way they dress? And why does the pope carry a staff? Where in the bible does it give instructions on how a preist should dress?

I have read the Old Testament and got a picture of how the high priests were ordered to dress back then. Why don’t priests dress like those high priests then like Aaron?

Is this a serious question? :hmmm:

**Is there anything in the Bible that justifies having revivals, altar calls, and invitation hymns?

I’ve seen no reference to them.

Now, if you can answer this question, I’ll discuss clerical haberdashery. Fair enough?**

PS–I’m willing to bet that the cassock (long black or white robe) that I wear as an Orthodox clergyman looks a whole lot more like what Jesus and the Apostles wore than 3 piece suits sported by pop-evangelical preachers! 😃 😛

I am unwilling to bet against you:)

Why don’t female Protestant televangelists follow St. Paul’s instructions to cover their heads and stay quiet in church?

Off topic, but I certainly suspect that a wig covers her head. I can’t speak about staying quiet.

Now, back to the question from the original post…Tunics and robes were commonly worn in Biblical times, (unlike blue jeans, t-shirts and business suits.) The Bible mentions Jesus wore a tunic/robe in John 19:23-24:
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them…They also took his tunic, but the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top down. So they said to one another, ‘Let’s not tear it, but case lots for it’…in order that the passage of scripture might be fulfilled, They divided my garments amont them, and for my vesture they cast lots.’”

Motoeric provided a nice link about priestly vestments. Here is another link that includes the prayers that priests say while putting on their vestments:
**fisheaters.com/vestments.html **Someone well aquainted with the Bible may recognize that many phrases and words found in those prayers are in the Bible.

Many Catholic prayers and customs often have references found in the Bible. Many Protestants ask of Catholics, “where in the Bible is…” because Protestants often are accustomed to hearing verse and number given anytime the Bible is quoted. That is not commonly done by Catholics when we use the Bible; the verses and numbers weren’t included in the Bible until around the 13th century. Notice in the Bible verse I quoted above, St. John quotes from the Old Testament without stating exactly where in the Bible it can be found.

Oh, come on now. Her hair is an expression of her desire to be a few inches, or perhaps a foot, closer to God.
“… and she’s buy-uy-ing a stair-uh-way — to heh-uh-vun.”

O love the way they dress…They look like the are doing God’s work

I love everything about my church, and the mass…I feel so fortunate to belong to one that is more than just a l dry lecture hall

Why do some of the Protestant lady preachers like to look like hookers?

Dear Prince,

I think the answer is the same as British lawyers wear wigs, or the military people wear their uniform with all those insignias. It looks cool anyway.🙂
