Perhaps priests wear black for the same reason many of us ladies wear it - it’s slimming 😉

Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam.
I have a catapult. Give me all your money, or I will fling an enormous rock at your head…
I believe it is part of his signature; the latin and translation 🙂

Now, I wonder where you get the idea that clergy wear black. Around here they wear pastel polo shirts and khakis, etc.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So true. I saw the assistant in my parish the other day all dressed up in black and I almost passed out from shock!

Priests wear Black to sigify death to the world. The White Collar is a sign of fidelity to the Pope and that is why it is called the Roman collar.
Really?? Then that just makes it weirder when Protestant ministers wear it, doesn’t it? :ehh:

That thought had occured to me, but in the interests of the fact that by baptism we are all Christian regardless of denomination, I declined to comment, but seeing as you have, then why do Protestant ministers wear this? Possibly a Protestant brother or sister can explain this to me, is it because there is still valid succession in orders in Protestantism, some Anglican/Protestant Priests when they convert to Catholicism do not need to renew their Holy Orders.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Dear friend

Thank you also for your answer.

What does the below piece taken from your post mean or refer to?

I have a catapult. Give me all your money, or I will fling an enormous rock at your head…

I try to change my below piece frequently. I mean no harm, only jest, in this instance

Protestant ministers who convert to the Catholic Faith must still receive valid orders to become Catholic priests. There are a handful of groups other than the Orthodox who have valid orders (Old Catholics under the bishop of Utrecht, for example), but Anglicans and “Protestants” roughly conceived do not have valid Holy Orders.

I wish all our priests wore the cassock. Of course, here (Las Vegas) they’d have to wear a white one, as I believe the priests in India and other hot climates do. They’d die in the Vegas heat otherwise.

Dear Prester John

Thanks ! :rotfl: now I understand, thank you for clearing that up. I was struggling in my stupid mind to work out what it meant …😃 Take care

Dear friend

Thank you for your reply. Why do they, then, wear the Roman collar?

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

If you like. But these are pious explainations attached to the dress long after it become standard and customary.

The Roman Collar was the fashion style of Rome, as opposed to the English collar (which it is a misname to call the Anglican collar, as it is simply a style of clergy in the English speaking word regardless of denomination).

Again, the cassock is the same garment as the academic gown and the judicial robe.

Now THAT"S Funny! You??! Stupid? I’ve read some of your posts! I should be so sober, careful and articulate. Lord Have Mercy on me…

Dearest Lady, you damn me with faint praise, as the expression goes. I will strive harder to pull up my socks!
