How can celebrating a date in history, that led to so much disunity, unite Christians?

It’s so stupid.
Agreed.
I went to a few Reformed Baptist churches years ago that still marked the date. It usually comprised of rather boring sermons on the reformers. Not to be insulting to Protestants, but this was my impression, while still a Protestant at the time.

Because truth is more important than unity. If something is true a person is obligated to become united to it even if that means separation from others who are teaching falsely.

We celebrate Reformation day because it represents the church setting the gospel free from the self righteous, law saturated teaching of the day.

The 500th Anniversary is in 2017. I’m curious how much Stuff will happen in the world between now and then that will make a return to the Barque a little more attractive.

Not even our orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ would dare celebrate their schism form Rome. The only thing protestants should be doing is praying for reunion with Rome.

Catholics are always praying for protestants to return to the True Faith which is Catholicism because we truly care for them.

I would think it would be very obvious why some Protestants celebrate this day.
It would be considered a day signifying liberation and a pathway back to and toward truth–not disunity, as you see it.

To call it “stupid” would be the same as non-Catholics calling Feast Days or Sainthoods or [insert celebration here] stupid–quite uncharitable.

Forum Conduct Rule #6: Catholics must be charitable in their discussions about non-Catholic belief and practice.

.
And your remark “pathway back to and toward truth” is sooo charitable. Ron is Protestant BTW.

It’s rather…amusing, tho…that you feel you know* the only thing* Protestants should be doing and praying for.

Pot meet Kettle.

Wrong on both counts , unity is not top priority, and Roman Catholicism in our view is geterodox

I figured geterodox was gender neutral heterodox.
Everythings PC today.

Starwarsfan The historical truth is that for the first 1500 years of christanity. Catholicism was the only form of Christianity Protestantism is a heresy that never existed until Luther created it by using his own decision that he knew better than the Church Fathers who were Catholic in doctrine and liturgy.

Those Churches were Eastern Catholic and were united to the Holy See of Rome.

Historical records prove as the the Catholic Church is correct about Her authority and belief in the authority of Popes.

Besides history shows us that the time of the early church those who outside the authority of the Catholic Church were heretics such as the Gnostics.

The day Protestants created a god in their own image and likeness. And have continued to do so for the last 498 years
