Why do Protestants presume to know Catholic doctrine and dogmas when they don't really know it?

And, why they even call it an “altar,” since for them there is no sacrifice. 🙂
That’s true—it’s more “table talk” than “altar call” in that case.

But “Why do people who don’t believe in the sacrifice represented by the Eucharist refer to an altar?” is another thread entirely. 😉

I have noticed he has been discussion disciplines as well rather than the main topic which is “doctrines and dogma”

I don’t think many Non-Catholic Christians (particularly Protestants) don’t know what the difference are between, devotions, disciplines vs. dogma and doctrine.

If they did know, they could have keep the topic on the right track.
So should we answer them anyway or direct them to another thread? I think that since they confuse Dogma and Discipline, we would do well to answer briefly so as not to appear to be avoiding the question. Then gently bring them back to the topic. Or link to another thread to discuss this.

Sometimes posts are moved to new threads. I don’t know how you can find out to which thread the posts have been moved, though.

I think we should. Perhaps the moderators can split threads.

How do you find out if a post has been moved to another thread?
It has been my experience here that if a moderator splits a thread up, they will post saying as much and a link to the new thread is included in that post.

Thanks. Some threads I have looked at were started from threadst that I had not seen, and that’s why I wondered. I just wanted to MAKE SURE I don’t lose a train of thought! 🙂

bump

Please don’t tell me I killed this thread just by asking that it remain on topic!

I don’t think so, Kay Cee.😉

I don’t even know how we got back on the topic of chastity in the priesthood, anyway. I thought we had already explained that it was a discipline developed over time that is advantageous for both the Church at large and for the clergy as individuals.

What do you think these disciplines and practices based on? They are all based on doctrines. Don’t think that the practices and devotions in the catholic church can be divorced from doctrine.

For your sake I will make a thread just for you on the issue of Catholic discipline and devotions. So we won’t derail this thread…

What might help is for catholics to post 5 doctrines of the catholic church. I think this would help to discuss these things more specifically.

I’ll have to get back to you at it later. I have to go to Guard Duty. See ya

the biggest problem i have is when you tell them something like No we do not worship the Blessed Mother we honor her but we only have one God, they argue with us. i dont know one catholic in my life who have ever said that The Blessed Mother was equal to God. but again they always say oh yes you do. Meanwhile you are standing there saying you dont. what do they want from us. Now lets be honest if we did we would be proud of it why would we lie. And they keep telling me what our religion is. I say do you go to the Catholic Church did you see that done. they say well no. And i just one time want to say so bad THEN SHUT UP. OR YOU GET THERE WAS THIS ONE GUYS BROTHERS SISTERS COUSIN. COME ON. I never accuse people what their religion is i will ask can i ask you a question, then i will say oh ok. I mean if they answer it right i dont say oh no this person said you do this and you do that. if they say they dont ok. i believe them. OH THANKYOU FOR LETTING ME GET THAT OFF MY CHEST I FEEL WONDERFUL

You are welcome.

I feel the same way. It’s like you talk to them, and then they bring up something else, bang, bang, bang. They are talking past you. I think the important thing is to keep on point. Stick to one subject at a time. Educate yourself on each point, one at a time.

Catholics are taught to respect other religions, so most of us are not used to this kind of attack. We shy away from in your face apologetics.

Dear rinnie, as I mentioned to Goldy in another thread, just let it be. If they think we are sinners, fine. Don’t worry,… Be Happy (you can sing the tune if you want). Behold, it is to the sinners that Jesus come. Keep on smiling, sister. Remember, Jesus will not judge us based on whether we honor Mary or not.
