Why do so many Catholics accept evolution as fact?

If algae was the first lifeform where did the time come from for it to evolve its complex algae cells ?

Yet all of these were functional creatures at the time they lived. That’s all. I saw an excellent photo of an insect trapped in amber. It had compound eyes, wings and multiple legs. It was not on its way to being anything else. It knew what was food and what was not food.

The transitions aren’t transitions. We still have almost all of these creatures alive today except the dinosaurs and the woolly mammoth. The Dodo is a recent loss. And how many species have gone extinct in the last hundred years?

Are humans worse off because we can no longer eat the Dodo? No, of course not. The same for other predators.

Many of the posts by those who are challenging evolution focus on minutia, avoid the science and do not offer any credible alternative theories.

If you have a credible scientific alternate theory please share it?
It you turn to Creation or Intelligent Design, they of themselves are not testable and so cannot be validated by the central method of science — testing ideas against evidence from the natural world. Faith based beliefs are not credible theories apart from the believers.

The Late Heavy Bombardment ended about 3.8 billion years ago. Algae appeared about 3.4 billion years ago. That is 0.4 billion years, or 400,000,000 years, for the first simple cells to develop and for the first algae to evolve from those cells.

The very first algae would have been a lot simpler than modern algae.

I can agree with your first sentence. I disagree with your second because we have technology that gave us the computer and the science for the technology. They didn’t suddenly appear. Our existence is what we make it. Yes there is a gap in our knowledge and it probably won’t be filled in our lifetime but exploring that gap is what makes it so amazing. Filling that gap, in my opinion, with god stifles learning. Why explore when all we need is god to explain everything?
Please bear with me:
One should always remember God is with us in every moment and that ultimately all relationships are included in the primary one we have with Him, that which gives us existence and the capacity to participate as we choose in creation. It’s rude to speak of someone present in the third person, but we do it all the time. I’m doing so now, but aware that He is present.

You did not capitalize the G probably because you are addressing ideas about God rather than He Himself. Be aware that it alienates those who interpret it as disrespectful. I must say it is very effective if you are looking for a fight.

When you will see Him face to face, everything that is of importance to you, will be explained. He is the Truth.

Science these days is an operating manual for matter. It does, as should be one of it’s primary purposes, open up the mysteries of creation. It allows us a glimpse of God’s great glory; that is what amazes! God is in the gaps, as He is everywhere. The mystery deepens with every bit of knowledge. It can’t be filled, not in this life-time or ever because the Fount of creation is infinite. That said, we may very well reach the limits of our capacity to understand and manipulate the physical.

We don’t actually have to explore nature, but those who marvel at its wonders and/or want to master and use it will continue to be so inclined. If you seek God, you will find Him, many of us do both religion and science. Those who want to avoid Him by restricting their vision to the surface of natural phenomena, could spend a life-time doing so.

As to the OP, what we have is a huge mosaic which is in pieces, only 10% of which have been found; we fill in the gap with assumptions. In the end, that Mosaic will be found to have the Trinity at it’s Centre, as we were in the Garden once and can be so now.

Hi Ken Ham how are you doing? Evolution is a fact. Those words are made up by people whom think a banana was “made” for a human to hold. Ty I needed the chuckle/
I Have never read a word of Ken Ham or seen a video by him,but I’m familiar with Dr Kent Hovind which you may be confusing.

. . . people whom think a banana was “made” for a human to hold. Ty I needed the chuckle/
Actually, . . . the banana and human history are intertwined.

Not every person searching for God would phrase it the same way, but one conceptualization of creation sees all of nature as a sort of placenta, having the same origin as humanity, allowing for our growth and development as the agent through which it comes to know its Creator. That pretty much covers all religions, whose teachings go on to highlight the central importance of love, which is at the centre of Christianity.

I don’t understand what you considered funny.

Before an answer to that question is even productive…
Do you have a sense of how old the earth is?
I could look it up,but I suspect the dates are all over the place, but they say it is in the billions…right ?

False. Evolution is used to help prevent or delay the development of resistance in bacteria, insects, weeds and others.

For example, the advice to always finish the full course of pills has a good evolutionary basis. If the pills are not finished then the least susceptible/most resistant bacteria will survive to reproduce.

An example of evolution taking place right under your skin!

They don’t “say” anything…, there is actual evidence of how old the earth is.
Do you know how old the earth is?

If not, then the discussion is no different than trying to convince atheists that God exists.

Evolutionist love those Zeros
And geologists and palaeontologists and astronomers and physicists and cosmologists and anybody with a reasonable science education.

If you want to dispute the numbers, then you have a lot more than just evolution to argue against. Just ask any solar astronomer how old the sun is.

(If you don’t like all those zeros then the answer is 4.5e9 years.)
