I think they just like it better that way. It’s a personal preference. Just like some stick the crucifix in the pocket of their suit, and some leave it hanging.
So why did you start a thread about it?I’m not really worried about it.
That is indeed the norm, btw.Yesterday, he was at a funeral in choir dress (which was really nice). He wore the pectoral cross outside.
Who cares?Seeing pictures of bishops across the internet, I’ve seen many bishops who nearly always wear their pectoral crosses outside their chasubles. I thought the rubric was to wear it always inside the chasuble? Why do some bishops wear it outside of the chasuble? Is there some case when this is done? It doesn’t even look good.
I think it looks quite good. In the Eastern side of the Church, many priests were pectoral crosses. Some bishops wear up to three necklaces during the Divine Liturgy. Looks good.Besides the fact that it looks bad.![]()
A pectoral cross worn by a bishop looks excuse me, “hideous?” How insulting!I think there’s some provision somewhere where they can wear it outside during concelebrations, but I’m not sure. I still think it looks hideous, especially when they don’t bother to use the more proper green–or–red and gold cord instead of the chain. The argument is that the bishops need to be differentiated from the priests, which is important. Hence, the zucchetto.
Your Excellencies, keep those pectoral crosses inside your chasubles and pontifical dalmatics!![]()
I care, quite obviously.Who cares?
Have you found the “rubric” yet?I care, quite obviously.
Why are you obstinately arguing over a four-month-old thread?Have you found the “rubric” yet?
Why would you even create such a thread? Why would you even claim such a “rubric?” You honestly need to ask yourself those two questions. Why are you obstinately arguing over a four-month-old thread?
I quite seriously think that you are making a gigantic deal out of absolutely nothing; you are, in tone, not so subtly implying that somehow this thread is “out of line” or something, for what reason I don’t know. There is a proper way for clerics to dress, and I was trying to sort it out.Why would you even create such a thread? You need to realize that the “proper way for clerics to dress” might well include wearing their pectoral crosses both inside or on top of their chasubles based on local customs.I quite seriously think that you are making a gigantic deal out of absolutely nothing; you are, in tone, not so subtly implying that somehow this thread is “out of line” or something, for what reason I don’t know. Maybe because he cares about doing things the way the Church has told us to do it?Step back for a moment and ask yourself why you would care so much about the “rubric” you mentioned even if it did exist.
Where has the Church told “us” to wear pectoral crosses only on the outside of our chasubles if we happen to be bishops?Maybe because he cares about doing things the way the Church has told us to do it?
