Jesus did not accept the opinions of men, as shown in Matthew 16:13-17:
When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples,
“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.”

See? His disciples mostly expressed personal opinions, which meant little to Jesus.
The one exception was Simon Peter, the only one who answered with authorative doctrinal truth.

Isn’t this a forum for discussion of non-catholic religion? I have read various kinds of oppinions, maybe there were a few prophetic oppinions…

:twocents:

There’s fact… then, there’s opinion… then, there’s belief. The religious don’t want their beliefs to be opinion, nor do the Agnostics/Atheists/etc. want the beliefs of the religious be labeled as fact.

Nobody knows what fact is anymore when it comes to the ideas of God, truth, “True Christian”, among others. They are too subjective.

That may be why people are posting their opinions: After awhile, it’s only natural to think outside the box in the interpretations of Catholic teaching and the Bible. So, mind you, another Bible quote may make things worse.

This is my opinion, though. 😛

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood

Yes it is but most people are looking for facts and not opinions

And that includes having opinions - even if he did not, which is debatable: the Gospel know shows him going to the WC, dressing, or having a hair-cut or bath - it does not follow he did none of these. He is presented in a certain way, because that is relevant to what the mission of Jesus was, & what the Gospel is. The gospels are not blow-by-blow biographies of him - they are far too short for that, & cover far too little of his life for that. Therefore, very little of what happened in his life is even mentioned.

And your point is

Courtesy Bill! People as for (name removed by moderator)ut, so it would be discourteous and unChristian to ignore their sincere requests!
We try to provide sources from Scripture, The Catechism of the Catholic Church, Canon Law, but sometimes people just need affirmation or a bit of shared commonsense
and/or a sense that they’re not alone and are understood enough to give them comfort!

God bless you!

Why come to this board if you are looking for opinions you dd know that opinions are like and we all have one
Why come to this forum if you just want facts? You can read the Catholic Encyclopedia online for that

This forum is for discussion, and discussion entails all kinds of fact swapping, statements of beliefs, and opinons

This is just my opinion (drats I think someone already signed off with that lol)

Have a good day and God bless you

What would you have us do? You consider the ideas of Protestants misguided opinions, and that is obvious by the things you say and the threads you start, so do you want us to leave so you can say what YOU want about other non-catholic religions?

May I ask what thread I start are you talking about . I start this thread because of people saying Jesus was married and had 16 wifes and then saying it is only my opinion or Jesus did not die and was living until the age of 123 and then saying this is my opinion… I was just thinking people here are looking for answers and not some ones opinion, just my opinion. Have a good day and may Our Lord bless you

Why can’t people give opinions that may think are wrong or irrelevant? Isn’t that how dialougue gets started? Isn’t that how we get educated? Is Islam an information control cult? Is the rapture bogus? Are all Christians who are not Catholic members of sects? Or are those things just your opinion?

I like opinions. They can lead to better understanding. I like facts. They are the Truth.

What I do not care for are people expressing opinions as if they are facts then trying to make others feel dumb for having their own opinions OR correcting them with facts.

Bill I know where you are coming from on this. I think people post their opinion looking for potential facts to refute or support their position. If someone cannot deliver hard core facts to refute someone’s opinion then we always see the proverbial discussion of, well the Bible doesn’t come out and say this or say that. Or the ECFs never said this or that. So we find people tending to stay with their opinion unless facts can refute it. This always seems to be the place where these threads go off the deep end.

PEACE Brother 🙂
