Can someone please explain? I know some info on the second Vatican council but people, especially traditionalists, talk about how much they despise Vatican II etc… Can someone explain?
A lot of evil things happened right after Vatican II in Western societies. Also, within the Church heretics (who were already at work for years earlier) became much more prominent. It was tempting to blame Vatican II for everything bad that happened after it, even though the external and internal problems were previously underway, and also impacted Protestant denominations that had nothing like a Vatican II.I read someone else’s theory, and unfortunately I cannot remember whose.
The documents of V2 are sometimes vague and sometimes downright ambiguous. However, the Pope instructed us to understand the “in the light of tradition,” so we are to look for the meaning which is in line with the previous teachings of the Church, right?
Unfortunately, some people interpreted the documents in a way that was *not *in line with the Church. Remember at this time people might not have general access to the documents themselves, or time to read and understand them, so when they heard others spreading their misinterpretations, they thought those were the Church’s ideas. And so they dislike V2 because of that misunderstanding.
You are probably not going to get one because I think that topic has been banned, so that if anyone actually wanted to inform you, they’d shut it down.excellent question. I too am anxiously waiting for one of the smart folk to answer.
75% of Catholics don’t attend Church. It’s been 50 years. Still a small amount of people not happy.
thank you.Much is done in the “Spirit of Vatican II” that isn’t actually there.

This is a good, concise, calmly written article about Vatican II.
People used to say, Vatican II taught A, B, and C, just to get us moving, now my idea, D, obviously flows from that movement. (Of course everyone has their own idea of what should flow next).Much is done in the “Spirit of Vatican II” that isn’t actually there.

Whoa, there whippersnapper, I am 60, “around during Vatican 2” and maybe have another good 20 to 30 years left. Most who resist V2 do so because of the changes in Mass more than anything else. Most of the people who were around during V2 have long since gone to their eternal rewards, regardless of what they thought about the council.
Some people didn’t like what came out of Vatican 2, and people tend to reject what they don’t like.
But like I said, those folks are pretty old by now, and will soon be gone.
