Why do some Protestants refuse to tell what their denominations are?

By all means, esteemed @JonNC

Please, be understanding with me: I’m from Europe, most protestants I’ve met don’t even know that “denominations” exist! They are convinced, there is only 1 single protestant church (as if they were Catholics)! Most of the time, they define themselves as anti-catholic foremost, or parallel, to defining themselves as protestants. This caused me quite some confusing for a lengthy time, until I saw pope Francis co-celebrating mass with the leader of, non other than, the “German Lutheran Church”. At the end of the ordeal, I recounted this very reflection to an elderly seasoned “padre” who was incisive to say:“those are but the most retarded protestants, ecumenical dialogue has been around for 60 years”, and it was a good thing I had finished just recently reading up on the life of pope Paul VI.

I am continually surprised, to find contemporary protestant celebrations on youtube where the pastor goes on for over 60 minutes denouncing Catholics as evil just to forget defining himself in the positive altogether.

Cheerio, and tata (do pardon my french) 😂

This is surprising. A mass? Do you have a link?
Vespers or Matins I could imagine, but not a mass.

I’m only somewhat familiar with European Christianity. I do know about SELK, which is the confessional Lutheran body and the church body that is a union of Lutheran and Reformed.

I’m far more disturbed by it than surprised. I see no reason for it.
