Why do Syro Malabar priests wear pink bows/ties?

I’ve looked through many threads and websites that define the entire Syro Malabar Vestment but I cant find any that describe the use of the pink bow/tie. Every source goes through each vestment component and its functional and ecclesial definition except for this bow. Can anyone give me a definition of the bows use/meaning? I also don’t see any other church that has a vestment piece similar to this bow.

Ahh… the infamous Syro-Malabar pink. We’ve wondered that time and again as well…

They also sometimes have pink altar server vestments.

I’m assuming that since pink is light red, many just consider it red in India, although to non-Syro-Malabars that color is very distracting and unsightly.

As to the MajorArchbishop’s vestment’s bow… there’s no need for it to be pink, or any color in particular. It was probably the one someone handed him prior to the picture.

Instead of a bow to close the neck, a button would suffice, however, this is the actual alb used in the Syro-Malabar churches.

Thanks but do you know what it signifies? I saw a thread on here before that defined literally every part of the Syro Malabar vestige except for the pink bow. For example the piece, "Zunara is the Syriac word for the belt-like strip of cloth worn over the Kottina at the waist. It is the symbol of “Chastity” and “Urara is the special humeral vestment worn by priests in the neck in such a way that its both ends extend beyond the knees in front. This sacred vestment is the symbol of ministerial priesthood in all liturgical traditions.” I can find no such definition for the bow anywhere or what it signifies. Is this perhaps because there is no background meaning behind the piece and its just a functional piece?

That’s right, it doesn’t signify anything, it’s simply to cincture at the neck. A button would have the same function.

Dear Catechesis, I had been monitoring this thread for some time now. You are right in the fact that all parts of the Syro Malabar Vestige have an important meaning, not just a functional one but it turns out like brother SyroMalankara stated, that the pink bow does not! I had been curious about the meaning behind this bow for some time now and your question prompted me to ask my parish priest. Today when I went to go assist him on some church affairs, I brought up this question. He simply stated that its only purpose is to hold together the alb. So you are right in the fact that it is simply a functional piece that acts as a button.

What I read from about 2005 is that pink is a traditional color for the Holy Spirit, for the St. Thomas Christians.

However, for the Latin Church, Gaudete and Laetare Sundays use rose colored vestments, those words mean Rejoice! So it would seem that rose or pink is the color of joy.
