Why do the Jews reject Jesus as Messiah?

The Jewish denounce Christ as being the messiah. I was wondering then what their belief is about the messiah prophecies of the old testament. Are they still waiting for their Messiah or have they simply denounced that a real Messiah exists? If this is so have they decided this part of God’s teaching is false?
