Does anybody know why the presidents of the LDS seem to live so long?

Healthy eating habits? Great medical care?

Gordon Hinckley is 95!

well I would suppose that money has a lot to do with it. When you have has access to that much for that long you tend to reap the benefits of top notch medical care and perfect diet. People are always there to take care of you. It helps.

Clean living is a contributing factor. No drugs, no alchohol, no tobacco, no coffee or tea, an emphasis on hard work. Combine that with money for the best available medical care, odds are a pretty good life.

Most of them are also descended from stock hardy enough to cross the Great Plains dragging handcarts, so genetics plays a role, too.

Not to mention a great hotel chain when travelling. 😛

(Yes, I know Marriot hotels are not owned by the LDS church but by a member of the church. Check the drawer - there’s a Book of Mormon in there.)

Good diets, no coffee, tea, drugs, or rock n roll, and much inbreeding of healthy W.A.S.P. Mormon polygamists from the 1800s. Everyone in Salt Lake City is related to each other, and no one dies before 120. 👍 😃

Wow Phil, that wasn’t very charitable. Yes they were polygamous but they had quite a few converts even in the beginning…so your inbreeding comment is exaggerated and not very Christ-like. I have lots of Mormon friends and they live very healthy lives and have healthy family relationships and support. I have the utmost respect for the Mormon lifestyle despite my strong disagreements with Mormon theology.

Before jumping to conclusions, does anyone know the names and ages of his predecessors? Also does their term of serving end at death or have some stepped down?

Why don’t you let them answer that question for you? When President Hinckley was asked that question, he replied with one word: “Work!”

I don’t know their ages offhand; but their term of service always ends in death. None of them have ever stepped down.
