I find myself stuggling with this question.
Hope this is the right forum for it.
Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
when our tastes are educated to discriminate between what is good and bad.
analogy is with food. the uneducated palate thinks fast food tastes good, but someone who has been taught to appreciate fresh vegetables properly prepared, the difference between local grown & organic vs mass produced and shipped, held in cold storage produce, the dfference between quality and sub-standard grade meat, how to properly prepare food for maximum flavor w/o bad stuff, the dangers of highly processed food etc, they have much more basis for choosing good real food over bad ersatz food, between a health supporting diet vs a damaging diet.
We have to educate ourselves in the virtues, not just in the sins, to differentiate between them. We have to learn the beatitudes and works of mercy alongside the commandments to make the proper choices. We have to learn to recognize the presence of Jesus in the poor, needy and broken, and to recognize the action of the Holy Spirit.
We do this through the traditional practices of prayer, fasting and acts of charity.
We learn to recognize the good by meditating on the life and mission of Jesus our Redeemer, and turning away from all that is bad or damaging in our mental and spiritual lives. So we learn to discriminate, to recognize evil for what it is when it masquerades as good, because we know the Real Good. That is what is meant by rejecting “the glamour of evil”. Glamour in its old, first sense is the glitter and shimmer of false gold and jewels, put there by counterfitters to tempt the greedy.
We study the Truth in God’s Word so we can recognize the falsehoods of the Deceiver.
