Why do we even need August?

I love the heat. I don’t like fall and I detest Halloween.
I don’t mind All Hallows’ Eve. It is the informal entry to the fall festive season.

And, around here, it marks the annual relief from headmelting heat (two weeks so far of unremitting 102+ weather).

We are literally ALWAYS hotter than Hell here…

(…of course, you know by now I mean Hell, Michigan :):):):):)!!!

You must not live in the Pacific Northwest. July is a little better, but August is awesome here. Highs average low 80s or high 70s, overnight lows in the high 50s or low 60s. Humid days are rare, and even those wouldn’t pass as such in the Midwest or the South.

Yes, strawberries are over, but there are peaches. Beside, if it weren’t for August, we couldn’t grow a tomato here, let alone any wine grapes!

I’ll be ready for fall when August is over and Mt. Hood is looking brown, but not before that.
Fresh local peaches…that’s what August is for.

What defines “hot” in Vancouver???:)🙂
For me personally, anything over 70 because I can’t stand the mugginess - it’s humid with the ocean. 😃 In the Okanagan in the interior where I’m from 80s or 90s can be lovely as its dry not muggy. When it gets over 100 though it’s too much. I don’t mind the rain so really the winter isn’t an issue for me. We don’t get snow and it rarely drops below freezing, so it’s just wet and chilly. A spring or autumn day in the 50s or 60s is perfect for me.
(Mind you these numbers mean little to me- I’m translating from Celsius).

Haha I know. 15 degrees centigrade is the ideal temperature for me. My wife is Dominican. There you have the heat and humidity all year round… It’s a living purgatory :p. I would take Texan weather over that - I prefer dry heat.

My peaches are already picked, pitted, and in the freezer.
And your tomatoes? Can’t lose a single day that leads to home grown tomatoes!

"*Plant 'em in the spring eat ‘em in the summer
All winter without ‘em’s a culinary bummer
I forget all about the sweatin’ & diggin’
Everytime I go out and pick me a big one

Home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes–
Wha’d life be without homegrown tomatoes?
Only two things money can’t buy
That’s true love and homegrown tomatoes*…"

Every year I plant tomatoes and every year they get eaten by the squirrels and probably raccoons.

Definitely not needed here. Can humans summer hibernate?

My AC struggles every day between the hours of 10am and 8pm. We can’t spend much time outside and be comfortable, especially with such young children.

I can’t wait to be able to be outside and not be miserable. This thread is making me want fall more and more.
