Goodness. Catholics believe in purgatory. That’s not hell, that’s a place of purgation, a cleansing prior to entering into the presence of God. In the same way, Jews bathed themselves prior to entering holy places.
The same holds true for all other faithful Chrisitians and even whose peoples who lived a good life althou they may not have been able to know Jesus.
While here on earth, the more time you have, the more time you can practice battling your fallen nature. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to keep trying and to ask for forgiveness and the Trinity’s help. Our attempts and our failures are there to build hope.
“Faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love.” Why, because once we are with the Trinity, we won’t need faith or hope, only love.
Here are some Scriptures from St. Paul’s Letters to the Roman Christian community on hope:
“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
“But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
