Why do we get things blessed?

I know we are supposed to get things blessed, but I never really understood why, and how did the start?
I’m talking about things such as the rosary, scapular, prayer books (just learned about this tonight, which is why I am asking).
It makes sense to me to get things blessed, but if someone asked me why I dont know if I could explain it…

When the priest or deacon blesses your rosary, etc., he is praying to God that God will bless you each time you use it. The blessed object “carries” this prayer of blessing, and we trust that God will answer prayer and bless you when you use the blessed object.
