Why do we need the intercession of saints when we can "confidently approach the throne of grace"?

Something that I’ve been struggling with in answering the questions of our Protestant brothers and sisters is the question of: “Why do we need the intercession of saints when we can ‘confidently approach the throne of grace’?”

They get this from Hebrews 4:16 which says:

So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.

Any ideas on how to respond to this argument would be greatly appreciated.
