Why do we no longer bow before the tabernacle?

Why do we bow before the altar which represents Jesus Christ and no longer before the tabernacle which holds Jesus Christ in the consecrated host?
 
Hi,

We are still obliged to genuflect before the tabernacle. That has not changed. What has changed is that often the tabernacle is in a separate room or is off to the side.
