Why do we protestants value ragweed or pointestias over people?

This last month I have met several people who quit going to church in december because of their allergeries to pointestias.

Each one, I suggested they speak to their worship committee about this, and each and every one responded that had done so, only to learn that their church values pointestias over people.

I told them to split up on sundays, visit several churches, and leave if there are pointestias and let someone know why they are leaving as they leave, and leave a phone number that they can be reached at.

Well that was two weeks ago. And, every protestant church values pointestias over people.

So, I suggested they get together and form their own house church which they did. I am baffled why churches value plants that are on the level of ragweed over people.

Why don’t these churches do us all a favor and plant ragweed in front of their doors.

Does Catholic Churches also have these weeds called pointestias or Easter Lillies too?

It is a Christmas flower, most people dont call them weeds.

I didnt know they made people sniff

can they sit at the back? does that help?

I know I have a hard time with perfume on ladies, (it should be discovered not announced, someone told me)

Maybe those churches can buy fake pointestias? then its not a problem.

No, they close my thought. My doctor tells me that this is true for about 4 percent of people who are allegic to these plants. And, there are many people who are allegic to them. There is belief that allergies to poinsettias may be a contributing factor to the increase in latex allergies.

WebMD Medical NewsNov. 24, 2003 – If you have a latex allergy, be careful around poinsettia plants. These popular Christmas plants contain a compound similar to that found in rubber latex – and can cause a severe allergic reaction.

A new study presented recently at the annual meeting of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology in New Orleans shows evidence of this risk.

Latex allergy is a reaction to substances in natural latex used to make medical products such as rubber gloves, condoms, and other medical devices. Non-medical devices also contain latex, such as erasers, pacifiers, and balloons. After touching or inhaling the irritant, some people have a skin rash, while others have wheezing. In severe reactions, there are more serious problems like chest pain, drops in blood pressure, shortness of breath, and wheezing.

With the ornamental poinsettia plant, the problem lies in its family tree. In fact, poinsettia is part of the same plant family as natural rubber latex, which is obtained from the Brazilian rubber tree, writes lead researcher Peter M. Ranta, MD, of the Medical College of Georgia.

In their study, they found that two proteins found in poinsettias correspond to proteins also found in natural latex.

**By mixing blood of latex-sensitive subjects with extracts of the poinsettia plant, 40% of latex-sensitive blood samples showed an allergic reaction, reports Ranta. **

Bottom-line message: Be cautious around poinsettia plants if you have a latex allergy.

Every Catholic church I have been in has poinsettia plants for Christmas. Then again, every grocery store, Target, Wal-mart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, K-Mart has them too. Do allergic people not shop during December? Somebody will always be allergic to something. Macy’s, JC Penney’s, etc. are not banning the perfume counters because some customers might be allergic to the fragrances.
