I have a friend who doesn’t go to Mass on a regular basis. She was home for her mother’s birthday over the Christmas holiday and went to Mass with her mother.
She asked me today why and when we started to raise our hands during the Our Father. I was suprised that she wasn’t familiar with it as we have been doing it for a number of years in Iowa - I told her I thought it was 20 years.
But I couldn’t answer her ‘why,’ can you help me with an explanation? She also ‘hated’ that the Church did away with guitar Masses. I told her the Church hadn’t done away with them, but it was up to the Pastor to decide what the music content would be. Was that correct?
Thank you for your help. And thank you for being there as I work around a number of ‘cradle’ Catholics who are either non practicing in any faith or who are of the evangelical persuasion.
