Why do we use the masculine?

My wife has a close friend who has been questioning specifically why the new translation of the Roman Missal did nothing to address the lack of inclusiveness in the Mass, and questioned why we use the masculine pronoun to refer to God.

Is there a solid explanation for why we use the masculine, and especially any books we could buy that might explain this?

Hi,

I suggest the Bible. Jesus always referred to the Father as “Father” and taught us to do the same.
