Did not Jesus “TEACH US” in John 6:53- 58)53 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. 54 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth this bread, shall live for ever.

Now if you think the above bible verses are only symbolic, then Jesus Christ was and is talking to saying “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not put into practice what I teach you”?

Truth is He did TEACH US about his Body and Blood that we MUST Eat and Drink otherwise you will have NO LIFE IN YOU! Amen.

The truth is I love my protestant brothers and sisters and I want for you all to have the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ in you that you may have life.

What is your take on this quote by Cardinal Ratzinger?

Even a theology oriented to the concept of succession, such as that which holds in the Catholic and in the Orthodox church, need not in any way deny the salvation-granting presence of the Lord in a Lutheran Lord’s Supper.

While the Cardinal surely doesn’t view the Lutheran Eucharist of those Lutherans not in succession (though some are) in the same light as the Eucharist in communions that are in apostolic succession, he clearly believes that there is the **salvation granting presence of the Lord Jesus Christ **there.

Jon, if you truly believe that you are partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ in your communion then Jesus would not take that away from you, but at the same time Jesus Christ only established “One Church” and it is not the Lutheran church, He is calling you to the Catholic Faith, again, that is why you are here at CAF.

I’m afraid when I read those words, I’m also reminded of the saying about removing the log from your own eye first. While I agree the OP’s opinion on the eucharist, whenever I read the above quote, I am reminded first and foremost of my own failiings, and not those of other people, Christian or otherwise.

In fact I think Christ meant it to be taken personally, and not on a question regarding the recognition of sacraments.

I’m not quite sure why you end up posting in these threads. These threads always end up devolving into the same discussion that can never have any end or any real understanding. The argument is always the same: “Why don’t you believe just like we do in the Catholic (read Roman) Church?” Lutherans:“But we do believe pretty much the same thing.” “Well, Christ would never take away whatever crumb He may have given you, but you can’t really believe the same thing, because you aren’t part of the One True Church after all Christ only founded one church which He built on Peter, it says so in scripture and you can even see Peter or what’s left of him in Rome under the church.” Orthodox: “Hey, we belong to the One True Church” “No you can’t possibly be, because you are not in communion with Rome.” Orthodox: “But we were founded by the Apostles.” “Well, maybe, but still Peter was the head of the Church and everyone knows that the pope is his successor and if you don’t believe that then you aren’t a member of the One True Church.”

And so it continues for another 500 or 600 posts. Until it peters out, no pun intended. Even if you use documents and quotes from the insiders, they will never accept you for what you are and try to work together to reach a better understanding of how we got to this place or where we can go from here. The same attitude of “it’s our way or the highway” that was encountered in the 16th century is still alive and kicking in the 21st.

I agree whole heartedly that the “split” or any of the many schisms in the church have never been intended or ordained by Christ. And I don’t think the problem is that those who split should come back, I think rather that it should be those that created the split should humble themselves and repent of their errors so that we can truly have a re-formation.

Now don’t get me wrong, and I’m not saying that the entire Roman Church has completely fallen away from the teachings of Christ because of the inherent sinfulness of papacy, but what Leo X did was completely evil and wrong. To equate the Power of the Keys to “As soon as a coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs” is completely contrary to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Devil was clearly at play in the Vatican to allow the corruption of selling God’s Grace.

Now to your history lesson, Martin Luther did try to fix these abuses from within and did not start his own church. But it was clear that Rome was having none of it in light of Exsurge Domine and Decet Romanum Pontificem. At this point I have to thank God that Leo didn’t have enough “secular authority” to do to Martin what Alexander had done to Jan Hus. But I guess if Rome had admitted to any wrong doing in light of selling indulgences, then we wouldn’t have the St. Peter’s we have today.

I think the Holy Spirit has brought you here as well. I believe He is calling you to truly see with clear eyes what the throne of peter has accomplished. I believe He is calling you to semper reformanda.

Mike, what was the most evil sin that ever happened in the Church? Do you Know? The Most evil thing in the Church was the betrayal of Judas. You talk about the evils that perhaps a Pope has done, or Selling indulgence, or schism etc… Please none can compare to the betrayal of Judas, None! Did Jesus say oh now since an Apostles betrayed me I have to start another church? No!

Mike, Mikey, Please Mike, now why would I become Lutheran, Why would I become a member of a Church that started in the 15th century 1500 years after Jesus Christ established His one and only Church, He who stated regarding His one and only Church that the gates of hell would never prevail over it. THanks be to God that I Trust in Jesus words about His Church something Martin Luther should have done but now we see the chaos that he started.

Now, If you were sick and you need medication which would you prefer the name brand with all its ingredience (the Church Jesus Christ has started) or the generic brand (without its full potency a man made church?.

I understand your concern. And yet, Ufamtobie, unlike others I have chatted with, has said stated agreement with Cardinal Ratzinger, that the real savlation-granting presence of Christ can be found in a Lutheran eucharist! This is a remarkable statement of a growing convergence between us, something unlikely to have happened 6 decades ago. And this statement is made in the course of casual dialogue on a forum.

You say you want to make sure that Lutheran teaching is not misunderstood/ misrepresented. I have done this here, and there are words from Ufamtobie that true ecumenism has taken place.

Ufamtobie expresses a level of faith, usually lacking polemics, that is admirable. Frankly, I enjoy our occasional chats.
