Why do you go to Mass?

To give thanks and praise and to adore God.
To offer my sinfulness and to beg for Jesus’ mercy so that I may be more worthy
To be challenged and nourished by the Word of God
To participate in the memorial of His sacrifice
To receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
To renew my relationship with the Body of Christ – with the angels and saints, with the parish family, with my loved ones not present, with all my brothers and sisters in Christ, living on earth now or living beyond this earth
To be strengthened for my discipleship the rest of the week

Because I HAVE to – I yearn to – I need to – God compels my heart to attend Mass. Even when I’m not crazy about the particular priest, the liturgical innovations, the distractions. The Mass is a slice of heaven, no matter how I feel or how well or how poorly I participate during the Mass. It’s the best thing I have going for me every week.

Some people go because the Church requires it every weekend, some go because they find peace there, some go primarily to receive Holy Communion, etc.

What is your reason for going? This curious priest would like to know!
can’t afford to be wrong.

I enjoy Mass and I go to receive Christ. The Holy Eucharist is as close a personal relationship we have with Jesus on earth. I guess if the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith the Mass could be considered the source and summit of our spiritual life? So it’s not an obligation in the sense of having to go but needing to go. I am blessed to be able to go to daily Mass now and I appreciate that I have great priests and their homilies are moments of teaching and encouragement. And we have prayers after Mass which I also enjoy.🙂

I go because I have to. I could not live without at least attending Mass.

I go because I love Jesus.

Yes, there are days when I don’t feel like going, but I remind myself of how much Christ loved me and it re-ignites my love for Him. Anyways, love is the main reason I go to Mass. ❤️

I go to Mass every day I can - at least 6 days per week. Why? When you love someone you want to spend as much time with them as you can. Of course, we are all in God’s presence every moment of every day, but the Mass is when Jesus is right there with us, as visible as He can be to us in this life.

Being at Mass strengthens me for the rest of the day.

Because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell, but most all because I wish not to offend my God, who is all good and all deserving of my love 🙂

I go to Mass every week because I believe its what God wants us to do. With all the things God has given me in this life how could I not set aside one hour a week for Him? Especially when I ask Him for stuff over and over again every day! I have to be honest though and say I have never liked going. I think I remember Mother Angelica saying once that “ Going to Church every week is hard work”. That’s how it is for me. Rarely do I ever feel anything spiritual at Mass except sometimes after communion. It’s the total opposite for me with confession though. I can almost always feel something when im being absolved of my sins.

Another reason I go is for my family. My daughter is three and I have been taking her since she was just a couple months old. I want her to feel comfortable in Gods house and learn all the things we do and believe and why. When she is older I want her to know the ten commandments and all the virtues and deadly sins and the sacraments. I want these things to be so ingrained in her that when the world try’s to corrupt her she will know good and evil instinctively without thinking and even if sometimes she makes the wrong choices I want her to know that God loves her and she can go to Church and be at home. Please pray for her that this may be so.

Because you’re a Priest I cant restrain myself from making a comment about the homilies I hear at Mass every week. We live out here in a culture that is a stinking cesspool of filth. Some of us were born into this and cant smell the stink because its normal to us. If you guys could start pointing out specifically all the things that reek of sin in our culture I think it could help some people out. It would definitely make Mass less like work for me!

How could I turn down a personal dinner invitation from the Lord of the universe, especially when He makes Himself the meal (Revelation 3:20; John 6:51)? I attend mass on Sunday and as often as possible first and foremost because I love Jesus - I love hearing the word proclaimed, I love praying, and I love receiving the incarnate Word in Holy Communion. I also attend because I am a lector in my parish. Finally, I attend because as a Catholic I am obligated… but as a former evangelical I now, by the grace of God, see this obligation not as an instance of legalism but as fulfilling Jesus’ words, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). It’s at mass that I find the true rest for my soul from Him who is my rest, the Lord of the sabbath.

I go to Mass and or adoration to Know Him, love Him and to serve Him. I really look forward to going to church.

Because it is the only place where Heaven and Earth meet. It is, literally, Heaven on earth, even if it doesn’t feel like it because you are at a new church/community.

I go because I get my strength for the coming week from worshipping God at Mass.
I go because I love the peace, being surrounded by my faith family, the smell of the incense, the more intense feeling of being in God’s presence.
I go because I’m grateful to Jesus for the suffering and sacrifice He endured for us all.
I go to thank God for not giving up on me during all those years I had my back turned to Him.
I go to receive communion.
I go so I can learn more about God and what He wants and expects of me, and how to give that.
I could keep going but I think the list above gives you an idea.
One other thing I would like to mention, since you’re a priest and you probably don’t hear this enough -
I go (to this specific church) because our pastor there is the one who, so gently, welcomed me back to the Church with the open arms of Christ. He was exactly the person who I needed to encounter to come back and STAY. So here’s a quick thank you for our priests. God bless you all, always.

For a variety of reasons. Obviously the requirement plays a part. I find receiving the Eucharist helps keep me peaceful and helps me avoid sin. I feel a part of a family during it.

To receive His body for grace and forgiveness (venial sins)
To be fed by His word
To pray and receive with community
Love our parish…Holy Spirit is alive there in a lot of the parishioners
Love our priest…so sincere in his vocation, he sets a fine example
To visit with other parishioners
To watch new catechumens and candidates rise for BOTW (makes my heart smile)
sometimes for the music

I go to Mass on Sunday mornings because it’s an obligation and because I need it to support my faith. On the rare occasions when I have not been able to go, there is really a sense of something missing in my week.

I Go because I am a CATHOLIC, right to the very core of who I am !
Thanks be to GOD !!!:extrahappy:

To be honest, at the parish I am at, I go because it is an obligation. I would choose to go elsewhere if I could, but I cannot. I do not get any spiritual “satisfaction” at the parish I am. I do my best to stay focused and to unite myself with the priest.

I constantly remind myself that the Mass is the representation of the sacrifice offered on Calvary and, more often than not, that is what being at Mass in my parish is like. It is very hard for me.
You speak for me as well. This is my experience exactly.
