I'm not going to be online here much after the next few days, so I wanted to just lay it out there one more time from my perspective.
I don't hate Muslims. I don't wish any harm to people who don't believe what I believe. I don't believe that any good can come from hating, commiting violence, or murder against those who disagree with you. I think when a person commits violent deeds, they should expect that more violence will be the result of their actions. Of course Islam says that it teaches peace. It claims that the way of Allah provides human kind with peace. Wouldn't that be great if that is what it actually did? In the name of Allah, murder and deception are allowable. Murder and deception are thought to lead toward the truth of Allah. If I am on Allah's side, then I deserve peace and those who disagree with us deserve chaos and distress - that is what Islam teaches (from my perspective).
I'm writing this right now because I want to appeal to you one last time, to rethink Islam. Try to imagine the world Muhammad entered from all perspectives. He is supposed to be an ideal that we can pattern our lives after, so try to imagine what He brought. For people who were on His side, at first, it was terrible - they suffered immensely as Islam found its feet. Once Islam had power, those who opposed it, or even those who were not Muslims, suffered immensely in the name of peace, in the name of Allah. Muslims, who had been oppressed and tortured, became oppressors and torturers. This was all allowed and encouraged by Muhammad as it is documented in the Hadiths and supported by the Qur'an.
Christianity does not present the idea that we should become oppressors in order to find peace. Jesus offers us the true way. Maybe the church needs some revolution, not revolution of blood and tears, but revolution in terms of the Spirit - the church isn't perfect, but God is. God can do amazing things. God can do amazing thing through us if we join Him. God desires that all will be blessed in His name, not because they fear death, or because they are pressured into it, or controlled by religion, but because they are drawn by the depth of His goodness. Jesus offers us the way of love. Love wins - think about any battle.... if love led the response to 911, everyone would be better off. America did not listen to the way of love. Bush did not lead people in the way of God. If he had, then the world would be a much better place today. Instead, because he responded in the way of hatred, many more people are dead and many people all over the world have valid reasons for hating Americans. I would say that America responded as Muhammad would have, though Muhammad might have just dropped a nuclear bomb on Afghanistan and just napalmed Iraq.
