I have a friend whos mother never made her first holy communion. My friend says that her mother know the teachings of the church when it come to holy communion, (Transubstantiation, the eucharistic fast, Ect…) but that she cannot recieve her holy communion because she has not recieved her 1st holy communion. Why must she make her 1st holy communion when she knows the teachings of the church.

Participating in First Holy Communion is an opportunity to seperate this special occation from all others. I don’t know that an adult who has been baptised in the faith and fully understands the teachings of the church on the Eucharist needs to make a big deal of their First Holy Communion, but they should talk with the Pastor before assuming they “know it all” and certainly before taking communion for the first time.

If they were mistaken in some of their understandings and never had it checked by the local expert, how would they ever sort things out before the mistake of taking communion unworthily? Does you friends mom go to confession regularly? If not, then this alone could be seen as evidence that they aren’t as well informed as one my suggest.

I hope this helps,

CARose

One’s First holy communion is one’s first communion, so I don’t quite understand what you are asking. She can’t receive communion because she has never received communion? Has she been Baptized and Confirmed, and catechized as a Catholic? Has she made her first Confession? If she knows the teachings of the Church, it sounds as though she has been catechized. Then she ought to talk to the parish priest to see if anything else is necessary.
