Why do you love Jesus Christ?

Certainly not, no more than other sorts of Christians have a tendency to love their biological mothers more than Christ. In fact, that’s a good analogy. Catholics are thankful to Christ for Mary in a way that all Christians (Catholics included) might be thankful to Him for a good, loving, and kind biological mother, without that being seen as a sign that they love their mothers more than Christ.
How do you renconcile your thoughts above with this passage?

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. - Matt 10

“Oh how I love Jesus, Because he first loved me”
In fact enough to endure the cross and die for me and take on my shame and pain. He loved me so much that he gave his life so that I might have eternal life. He is my closest friend, true and unconditional.
As far as Mary, I love her and honor her the same as Christ did. Woman, behold your son, Son behold your mother.
Interesting Scripture to wrestle with in addition to the one above…

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Matt 12

Why do I love Jesus?

Because He taught me to love… He IS love, He showed me love and keeps showing it to me everyday and will keep doing so for eternity for His love is eternal and never-ending.

He is the One who made it possible for me to love, and only in Him true love exists…

Peace

PS (I like how all Christians can discuss what they have in common 🙂 )

God Is Love

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. - 1 John 4

It is quite easy to reconcile the two: Do you honestly believe Jesus meant that relatives who follow Him would turn against each other, or do you admit the clarity of the fact that Jesus was referring to unbelievers would turn against believers even if they were family? If you admit that, then clearly that verse has nothing to do with whether or not a person loves their mother. I did not say that Christians do love their mothers more than Christ, I specifically said that loving their mothers doesn’t mean they love them more than Christ.

It is not a wrestle, my brother. 🙂 All that Jesus said was that “whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, sister, and mother.” No one, not even any Protestant I know, would ever say that Mary did not do the will of the Father, and thus there is nothing that would exclude her from Jesus’ statement. Jesus made an important point when given a good opportunity to make it. That point would have invited others into His family, but it would not have excluded Mary.

Good answers!

I love Jesus Christ because He sustains me with His Love unconditionaly.

I love Jesus because He is Love, because He loves me and died for me and because of who He is.
