Actually, Buddhism is more of an oxymoronic atheistic religion than a belief in God.If that is how you’re defining ‘monotheism’ and ‘polytheism’, then all of Hinduism would be considered ‘monotheist’. And Buddhism would transcend any of your categories.
And I think you missed the part where I said, “For example, many non-Christians mistakenly believe that…” Christianity is monetheism as I stated above in the monotheistic part.
Consequently, I think you also missed the part in the monotheistic section where I said that Zoroastrianism and various Hindu denominations are also considered monotheistic, "…by their adherents."
This is to say, I actually don’t think that Zoroastrianism and various Hindu denominations teach monotheism upon closer examination. Mainline Hinduism definitely does not teach monotheism in any sense of the word even though some minorities within the religion claim to do so.
If I’m going to do a poll, then I have to do my best to portray it from how the religion in question perceives itself without leaning too much in the direction of how Christianity perceives it.
It’s extremely difficult to word this without leaning too much in either direction. But I am doing my best.
