Why do you, or don't you recieve Christ's blood at Holy Communion?

I don’t receive the Precious Blood either, because I have to stay away from alcohol after a nasty illness last year, and as far as I am aware, while it is the Blood of Christ, it also retains the ‘accidents’ of the substance it was before, which presumably includes the alcohol content.

It does beg the question of what the Priest does if he gets some illness that prevents him from drinking alcohol. Is non-alcoholic wine used?

At my parish, the chalice is offered to the laity only on special days like Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Corpus Christi . . . and last week a priest said his first holy mass at our church and the chalice was offered. (So the Precious Blood has been offered quite a lot lately!) Whenever it’s offered at my church I receive it, and I usually do at other churches if there are not many people (like a daily mass). But if I’m at a “Life Teen Mass”–which I’ve only been to twice, thank God–I don’t receive the precious blood because I don’t trust the “Life Teen” EMCs not to spill it.
 
They only offer it to the Eucharistic ministers at our church, blah, talk about favouritism :whacky:

They’re Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, not “Eucharistic Ministers.” 😉
 
For me, the reason no not reciveing the blood of Christ and any communion, Its due to living in a state of mortal sin :o.
 
I used to receive both, but my hands tremble, sometimes quite terribly and I am worried enough about dropping the body let alone the blood. I do feel weird passing the blood, but I would rather show reverence in prayer when I return to my kneeler than spill the blood.

I also do not sing after communion anymore. When I was in the choir, although I loved singing, I felt it rushed me in my full participation, so now praying in silence gives me a greater sense of unity with Christ.
 
I receive under both species as the catechism encourages this as a fuller sign of communion:

1390 Since Christ is sacramentally present under each of the species, communion under the species of bread alone makes it possible to receive all the fruit of Eucharistic grace. For pastoral reasons this manner of receiving communion has been legitimately established as the most common form in the Latin rite. But “the sign of communion is more complete when given under both kinds, since in that form the sign of the Eucharistic meal appears more clearly.”[222] This is the usual form of receiving communion in the Eastern rites.
 
I receive under both species because I am a deacon; and the GIRM instructs the deacon to receive communion under both kinds.

Personally, I do believe there is greater sign value with both species, but that is my personal opinion, not my opinion as a cleric.

I do wish more parishes would obey the order of reception of the sacred species. The priest communicates first, then the deacon, then the EMHC (if any), then the people.

I receive out of obedience and a personal sense of respect towards the sacred species. I bow and make the sign of the cross when approaching the Chalice, just as I do when I approach the Host.

Even though I do receive from the Chalice when it is offered… I would prefer that it be limited to the specifications outlined in the GIRM, and to avoid an onslaught and abuse of the role of the EMHC…we need to combat the notion that we HAVE to have EMHC’s because we HAVE to distribute the Precious Blood always, all the time (even for daily Mass). There is nothing more odd than seeing two EMHC’s go up to the sanctuary to help distribute the Precious Blood for a 6:00 a.m. weekday Mass attended by 15 people - this is truly an abuse.

But to those who either do not prefer receiving from the Chalice, don’t like it, or are flat out against it - I really encourage you to still acknowledge the Presence of Christ in the Chalice by some sign of respect, whether it’s a bow or a sign of the cross as you pass the minister with the Chalice.
 
I do not recieve Christ from the cup because of an incedent at my First Holy Communion. At the rehearsal the Deacon said if we spill the Precious Blood on ourselves he would put us in the washing machine and sure enough I spilled the Precious Blood all over my tie and shirt! I wasn’t put in a washer machine but I was rinsed off outside. :o

I must say I would enjoy both however I went to a C church that had it in plastic jugs? No way I was a neophyete and knew that was bad. I may not smart but…

I do receive the Most Precious Blood, because that’s the way Christ instituted the Sacrament at the Last Supper. Don’t anyone flame me, I know the fullness of the Scarament is contained in either Species.

Despite the fullness of the sacrement being contained in both species i have an accute yeast intollerance and cannot partake in the consumption of the blood of christ. This vexes me should i just do anything for the Lord?

Would taking it as a suppository be acceptable?

Absolutely deathly afraid of getting clumsy and spilling the Precious Blood.
 
Monday through Friday in our parish, it’s only the Body, so we have to wait for the weekend…Where I take the opportunity to receive both, and consider it a privilege to do so.
 
I am afraid of germs so don’t receive the blood, unless I’m one of the first to receive.
 
Several reasons I don’t receive the Precious Blood:

1 Way too much danger of spillage.
2 Christ is fully present under both or either species
3 Possibility of infection from others using the chalice
4 No real reason to do so
