I think that once God resigned Himself to the fact that the Catholics weren’t coming back to Judaism, He figured “what’ s the difference?”

This world can break your heart.
I had compiled some texts on this subject and just made them into a blog post. (I’m brand new with this whole blogging thing, and this is actually my first one ever!): fewsaved.blogspot.com/When Mary appeared in of the most recent (approved) apparitions (can’t recall which one…) she said that “these days more people go to Purgatory [than Helll]”… (very few go directly to Heaven) so i am wondering… What happened in the last couple hundred yrs that changed that… Well… unless she meant to say that most people used to go to Heaven (when there was just one Church??) but I am confused about all this because some saint said he had a vision in which nearly evreyone went to Hell… that was back in the 1100s…
I don’t know… I am just trying to figure things out (as usual)…![]()

I think this should help answer your question concerning your understanding of the text from this apparition you cited.
i totally agree with all you say… and maybe that apparition i heard about where Mary supposedly said that more people now go to Purg… well, mabye it is was NOT an approved apparition… much as i thought it WAS… I don’t think even Medjugorge is approved, is it??I think you are correct that many converts to the Catholic faith from various protestant sects become Catholic after realizing the problems and divisions among those who consider themselves to be “Bible believers.” The fact that there are thousands of various protestant denominations all believing different things based on their individual interpretations of the same Scriptures provides protestants with a problem that their personal belief systems they formulate cannot answer since their chief assumption is that the Holy Spirit guides sincere individuals into the fullness of the truth, which they view as whatever someone believes that agrees with them. This reason was one of the many which drew me to convert to the Catholic faith.
However, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that somehow there are more people necessarily going to heaven as a result of protestantism. In fact, I would argue the opposite. How many more souls would have remained in the Catholic Church and had access to her saving sacraments and the fullness of her teachings had it not been for the many protestants who snatched them out of and drew them away from her? I certainly do see good that comes from protestant teachings as they help prepare the way for the fullness of the gospel of in the Catholic Church; however, protestants also still draw many Catholics away from the Church and thus further and further from being able to attain salvation. I’m not saying it’s impossible for a protestant to be saved, but it would at the very least be much much more difficult and such a person would also have to qualify as being invincibly ignorant that the Catholic Church is the true Church founded by Christ. And one who is prideful in assuming their way to be correct and is not willing to beg God for light from heaven can doubtfully be considered as invincibly ignorant. Possibly ignorant, but not invincibly.
You are so right. It is far better to purge ourselves now and is much much easier now to purge ourselves than in purgatory where the doctors and saints have described the pains as more intense than anything we could ever suffer here on earth. Moreover, we must be diligent that we are always ready to meet our Lord as we never know at what time we will die and meet him. If we consistently live our lives in the state of grace and the practice of virtue, then we have nothing to fear. However, if we are lukewarm… (Rev 3:16), we need to repent and turn to God and be always ready for his coming (Luk 21:36; Mat 24:42; 25:13; Mark 13:33-35).i totally agree with all you say… and maybe that apparition i heard about where Mary supposedly said that more people now go to Purg… well, mabye it is was NOT an approved apparition… much as i thought it WAS… I don’t think even Medjugorge is approved, is it??
Something about that just doen’st make sense to me in light of other things i know… such as the things you mention here…
Maybe, if that apparition is false… that is the reason the devil caused it… to get people to thinking that they will probably go to Purg… no need to worry… live it up a little… (etc)… you can do all that “purging” stuff later… Yet, the saints tell us that it is FAR better (less painful) to do our purging Here rather than There…
It seems to have gone on for an awfully long time, and even seems to be creating its own economy - which does not seem consistent with the behaviour of Our Mother. (When a similar thing started happening at Fatima, she gave one final message to the children and then ceased her appearances.)And to answer your question, medugorje is not approved, nor do I think it should or will be IMHO.
i totally agree… pepole don’t seem to fully realize or comprehend just how holy and just God is… and that he will NOT allow any impurity to enter Heaven… Even as devout a Catholic as I am, i speak of myself here as well… I never realize how far from my goal i am until i spend a long time praying the Sorrowful Mysteries of the rosary or spending time in His holy Presence in the Church (where, as you may know, the Souls in Purg also abide, near Him)… To be there is to be in Purg… and it is NOT always so wonderful, at least in the beginning (the 1st hour or two) when all those weird “cobwebs” are being removed by Him…You are so right. Why do you not like Medjugorge???And to answer your question, medugorje is not approved, nor do I think it should or will be IMHO.
Where did you hear that the location of Purgatory is in church or that it’s near Christ’s earthly presence?I never realize how far from my goal i am until i spend a long time praying the Sorrowful Mysteries of the rosary or spending time in His holy Presence **in the Church (where, as you may know, the Souls in Purg also abide, near Him)… To be there is to be in Purg… **and it is NOT always so wonderful, at least in the beginning (the 1st hour or two) when all those weird “cobwebs” are being removed by Him…

i can’t recall but i think it was a saint… I read a lot and i read this some time ago… so that’s why i don’t remember… All i can say is that i only read books that have the Impramatur on them or are reliable in other ways… I am VERY selective in my reading…Where did you hear that the location of Purgatory is in church or that it’s near Christ’s earthly presence?

In all your extensive reading, have you ever stumbled across St. Thomas Aquinas’s Summa Theologica per chance? If so, do you recall what the angelic doctor had to say on the subject?i can’t recall but i think it was a saint… I read a lot and i read this some time ago… so that’s why i don’t remember… All i can say is that i only read books that have the Impramatur on them or are reliable in other ways… I am VERY selective in my reading…
I’ve read this discussion, and it had some interesting ideas throughout, especially from the point of view of a non-catholic believer, which I am. The one point of view that I found both prominent and troubling is summed up in the quote above. In order to show that God has no mysterious “reason” for letting Protestantism exist. He allows it to exist for the same reason He allows diseases, accidents, and every kind of stupidity - to purify the just, and to destroy the unjust.
+1Why did God allow protestantism? To salvage the Gospel of Jesus Christ from false religion and to further His church!!!
The bashing can go on and on on these blogs, but ask yourself what was originally taught by Christ and the apostles? Are you, reader, practicing what Christ taught? Do you believe that you are? On what grounds? Have you read the Bible recently? Why or why not? It is written plainly—one does not need to be a priest to interpret it! The holy spirit reveals the truth of God’s word!
I grew up steeped in Christian tradition, until the day that God opened my eyes and revealed to me what Christianity is really about. Read your Bible!
Pray to God for him to reveal his truth to you, regardless of what it means as to what church you are affiliated with, or what your friends say. He changed my life of religious ritual into one of glorious fellowship with the God of the universe!

And they say we are the hatersI’ve read this discussion, and it had some interesting ideas throughout, especially from the point of view of a non-catholic believer, which I am. The one point of view that I found both prominent and troubling is summed up in the quote above.
I am not Catholic, but attended a Catholic university, where I took classes taught by priests and sisters on the faith and was surrounded by young Catholics at every turn. And I have to say I never once experienced the vitriol and hatred of protestantism I’ve seen here.
I just don’t get it…50+ years since Vatican II and the advent of ecumenics, and still some of you fight this battle, stoke these fires, as if you were in the trenches of WWII. To hear you speak, protestantism is an unspeakable evil, a blight, at best a great evil that God has SOMEHOW used for a (tiny) amount of good.
Seriously? Is this really what Catholics believe? Were all of those young people I spent time with really thinking this during all the discussions we had, the conversations of faith? If so, I should say they hid it well.
Let me clear something up for all of you: I love Jesus. He saved me from certain death and a lifetime of sin, and has been mercy and kindness to me every day since. He has become the meaning of my life, the center of my existence, and my closest dearest Lord to boot. And all of that is true because of the non-catholic faith that opened my eyes to Christ. And there are millions of Protestants just like me, and millions of Catholics too.
This war you fight, this hatred you have for protestantism, makes you look small, and I promise it does NOTHING to further the message of love your Lord died for, nor to build His Church, whatever form of that you adhere to. I would be very careful of calling something that has saved so many souls, and so swelled the ranks of the believing, something equal to “diseases, accidents, and every kind of stupidity.”
Your statement doesn’t follow from the post you quoted. Walkinginfaith not hating but making a statement that should be looked at. James makes it clear what faith and true religion are. She’s showing how protestants have exemplified their faith and specifically how its help Walkinginfaith’s faith so to speak. James says that your works should demonstrate your faith and so it goes with protestants. Keep in mind Protestants are using the same text as Catholics because after all the Sacred Scriptures are part of the Deposit on equal standing with Sacred Traditon and magesterium of the Church. There must be something good in scriptures then especially when so many churches (that claim) to follow it do so many things that Jesus would see others doing. Walkinginfaith did not spout hatred she pointed it out. Its a common technique to accuse the person who originally makes the accusation to begin with. It’s not really a goo debating tool. It ignores issues. And they say we are the haters
In the four centuries since the Reformation, Catholics have often reflected on the mystery of God’s providence in allowing so many persons to be separated, first from Roman unity, and finally (for many of them) even from the Christian faith. If nothing happens by chance with God, there must have been reasons to correspond in gravity with the event and explain, as far as we humanly can, why the tragedy was permitted to occur. Why did God allow protestantism? To salvage the Gospel of Jesus Christ from false religion and to further His church!!!
