When he carried the hosts to the altar of the Repose on Holy Thursday? I understand why he does it for benediction, it is to show God is blessing us and not him, so he covers his hands with the cope

I noticed tonight father covered his hands and the Ciborium as the Eucharist was lead in procession to the Altar of Repose…

***The long floor-length vestment worn by the priest is known as a cope. It is an ancient vestment worn during solemn liturgies other than the Mass (e.g. benediction, baptisms, et cetera).

Over the cope is worn the humeral veil (“humeral” comes from the Latin word for shoulder). It is usually clasped with a chain to hold it on the shoulders.

The humeral veil is worn over the priest’s hands when handling the sacred vessels (monstrance, ciborium, et cetera) as a mark of profound respect for the Lord and for the sacred objects.
 
Thank you for that information…I don’t think Fr wore a Cope then, just the humeral veil over his chasuble…at least it looked that way from where I was setting
