Why not? This actually makes perfect sense from an Aristotelian-Thomistic perspective. God (the prime mover) is pure actuality. In God existence and essence are identical. In Aristotelian terms the essence of something is equivalent to its substantial form. The substantial form or essence of Pope Benedict XVI is ‘being a man’ but in God, the substantial form is simply ‘being’ (or to be). God simply is. This makes perfect sense. God—being the greatest possible being does not fall under any genus, he cannot be defined or explained in terms of something else. He is being, he just is. That is why when Moses asked our Lord what is his name on Mount Sinai, Our Lord replied by saying “I am who I am.” He is who he is. He has no explanation for his existence, if he did then he wouldn’t be God.Thank you for your advice.
That, well, doesn’t really make sense. His existence can’t be the reason of His existence.
