Do you know which hadith that quote is from? Is it Bukhari?
the hadeeth is found in both saheeh al-bukhaaree and in saheeh muslim. i’ll try to get you the exact references when i’m able.

Faith101,

I also found this passage, of all places from a book that r.gonzales just posted the link to on this thread: Muhammad was really a Christian…
The ‘Uthmaanic Qur’aans were written in this script and it
is almost incomprehensible to modern-day Arabic readers.

The script was written without hamzahs, nuqaat (dots) or
tashkeel (vowel marks). This was the manner of writing at
that time. Therefore, a straight line could represent the
letter baa, taa, thaa or yaa. It was only by context that the
appropriate letters and vowels could be differentiated.
The
Arabs at that time were accustomed to such a script and
would thus substitute the appropriate letter and vowel
depending on the context.
Why then do you apparently find my assertions below so funny?

It seems the problem is compounded even further when you consider that the “classical” Arabic writing used in the Quran was a type of shorthand that was even more defective than the Arabic writing of today. Many consonants were expressed primitively by the same sign, with short vowels not even expressed (hence the many alternate spellings of words like “Muhammad” you always see, for example
lol, you got to be kidding. Can you please cite your source.

Take a look at an arabic Quran, you will see so much action going on around ONE word…it tells you how to pronounce the word exactly. Where are you getting this stuff from?

Well , your opinion might have been found funny because the non existance of the dots doesnt mean the mis spelling of the word.

and by the way the word Muhammed doesnt have any dots and was written in arabic without dots same as written in arabic with dots because it doesnt have any dots. The problem comes when we want to make you pronoiunc it well in English

r.gonzales:
arabic is a phonic language, not a written one. that is why old arabic script is the way it was and was developed over time to what it is today. the language still remains pretty much the same, and unlike craig winn’s super retarded claim that only 500 people on the face of the earth at any given time can understand “paleo-arabic”, there are hundreds and thousands of people alive today that can understand it just fine.
the dots and vowel markings were added for the benefit of non-arabs who were learning the language, so that they wouldn’t make mistakes in recition of the Quran. these markings - in particular the vowel markings - are only prodominantly found in the Quran, whereas in most other arabic writings, these vowels are not present.

unlike christianity or any other religion, islam has what’s called the isnaad, the chain of narration or transmission. it is the means for which narrations, traditions and other teachings are verified for authenticity and validity. with the Quran, we have a clear chain of transmission leading back all the way to prophet muhammad and his companions as to how it is to be recited. the sheer number of complete chains in agreement as well as the number of memorisers of the Quran, both arab and non-arab, in successive generations of muslims is so vast that it is impossible that someone could have made a mistake in the placement of a vowel or a dot.

we also have manuscripts dating back to the first couple of generations of muslims (as early as the 100’s - 200’s in the islamic calendar; we’re currently in the 1400’s) to show that in particular, the dots added to distinguish some letters from others similar in shape was done early on.

I didn’t say that words were misspelled, just that there are different ways those words could be pronounced. You’re right about Muhammad’s name though, there is a problem of transliterating into English. The assumption that I guess I made was that if his name had short vowel sounds it would be the same case there, where we wouldn’t be exactly so sure how it was pronounced anyway. I know this doesn’t prove anything, but I was only using it as an example. This is really all just a big tangent that was taken when Faith101 took objection with me saying that Arabic was a “vague” language.

Then if there’s also a narrative (oral) chain of transmission that remains unbroken just for the Quran, I guess that would be sufficient. I didn’t know that. I guess it’s kind of like apostolic succession, except that it’s used only to know exactly how to pronounce the words instead of how the words are interpreted.

Allah speaks in whatever language he likes. It is just that the last Book from him was in arabic . His words will always be preserved same as they are revealed to The prophet Muhammed PBUH . If you wanna translate it to another language then it is called " Translation of the meanings of The Quran "

No language translates exactly from other language . That is why we hold ONLY the Quran in Arabic to be Allah’s words.

Peace

meedo is right about the problems of translation as I pointed out to him on another thread.

I quoted John 20:24:28 in which Thomas answered and said to Jesus, "My Lord and my God!
Medoo responded by saying Thomas is saying “oh my God” upon seeing a miricle.

However, here is the actual greek with the word for word translation. Greek: Ho Kurios mou kai ho Theos mou—literally, “The Lord of me and the God of me!”) That is not quite like saying “oh my God.”

Peace

By the way medoo I am still praying for you.

Allah has knowledge of all things…He chose to reveal the last and final revelation in Arabic
How can you make such a bold statement? When did you ever converse with God on such allegation, or are you our latest prophet now?

I suggest that all of you read Acts 2:6-10, as you should be well aware of if you are saying the Rosery: the Glorious Mysteries, The Decent of the Holy Spirit. If you happened to watch Gipson’s film, you may recall Pilot’s surprise when Jesus answered him. The subtitles did not indicate it, but Jesus suddenly switched from Aramayic to high Latin. The question of language in revelation is purely human vanity. The Masorites rejected several of the books in our Catholic bible solely because there were no Hebrew copies available, only Greek, and the prots take their word for it. As to the Koran, I’m an historic-redactive analist by training, and had the opportunity to study Islam extencively. I have strong opinions as to the validity of the document and teach them in academic settings, however I am obedient to the Magesterium and leave relations to my superiors. What I do admire is that anyone can learn Arabic. Every Mosque offers free classes to anyone interested. Why do we not offer free courses in Latin, even on the internet? :hmmm:

subhanAllah, Allah has truly spoken the truth in the Holy Quran.

Sainted,

God has revealed the final revelation in Arabic. That’s what He said, not me.

Thus have We sent by inspiration to thee an arabic Qur’an: that thou mayest warn the Mother of Cities and all around her,- and warn (them) of the Day of Assembly, of which there is no doubt: (when) some will be in the Garden, and some in the Blazing Fire. (Quran 42:7).

And before this, was the Book of Moses as a guide and a mercy: And this Book confirms (it) in the arabic tongue; to admonish the unjust, and as Glad Tidings to those who do right. (Quran 46:12)

Accept it or reject it…no benefit or harm will fall on anyone, except yourself. May God guide us all.

Thus have We sent by inspiration to thee an arabic Qur’an.
Do you expect me to believe this just because it’s written in bold letters. Hey look here I need more than just giving me verses after verse. Anybody else can make up a similar or even better statement.

Logically if Muhammed was Chinese I would bet you with my life that it would read:
"Thus have We sent by inspiraion to thee a chinese Qur’an."

Anyway as we all know the poor man was illiterate who also happened to be arab, of course he wouldn’t beg for his words to be written in Chinese or any other language. Do you get what I’m trying to say. Citing learn-by-heart verses cannot help us here.

The Quran also says that some people will question why the Quran was sent in Arabic and not another language…question after question…in the denial of truth.

You asked me how i can make such a bold statment to say that God revealed the final revelation in arabic. I answered by saying that it is not i that say this, but your Creator himself. Again, accept or reject, i really couldnt care less…I, like you, will be standing in front of God on the day of judgment ALONE…perhaps you can ask your questions then 😃

What did you expect to happen… everyone on earth accepting a self-proclaimed “holy book” like this as soon as it’s handed to them in blind faith? This was a self-fulfilling prophecy from the beginning.

Just wondering from an outsider’s perspective:
Why does Islam’s God, (Allah) speak only Arabic?
Where from you get the idea,Please?

:

I definitely wouldn’t do such a silly thing cos if he answered me in arabic how would i understand.!!!

I’ll save my questions for the God of all nation who speaks in all languages and who gave the power to His apostles on Pentecost day, to proclaim His message in any language under the sun. (There was no discrimination of language nor any ranking)

just because it seems that everyone has missed the question i posed back in post #13…

I got the idea from reading this forum. The Quran is written in Arabic, and apparently, only the Arabic version is considered reliable by Muslims. I’ve heard that Muslims are required to pray in Arabic whether they understand the language or not. Presumably, Allah could understand prayers in other languages, so why Arabic?

  1. the Quran is in arabic because Allah chose to reveal it in the language of the prophet He revealed it to. only makes sense.
  2. the Quran is only considered the Quran in the language it was revealed in, which happens to be arabic. translations and interpretations of the meanings are just that, translations and interpretations. no language can completely be translated into another as there is always something lost in translation. arabic is a rich and deep language and much is lost in translations into other languages.
  3. muslim ritual prayer consists of certain actions and requirements, one of which is to recite the Quran in the standing position before one bows. which brings us back to point 2. as for supplications and invocations, then unless you’re reciting particular supplications and invocations that have been legislated for certain situations, you can make these prayers in any language you wish to.

Thanks for this clarification.

SubhanAllah, i almost forgot this verse.

And if We had sent this as a Quran in a foreign language other than Arabic, they would have said: “**Why are not its Verses explained in detail (in our language)? ** What! (A Book) not in Arabic and (the Messenger) an Arab?” Say: "It is for those who believe, a guide and a healing. And as for those who disbelieve, there is heaviness (deafness) in their ears, and it (the Quran) is blindness for them. They are those who are called from a place far away (so they neither listen nor understand). (Quran 41:44)
**I’ve been doing some reading in the “authorized English Version”; whatever that is and I can’t help but think, this is a cheap imitation of the Old Testament and a smattering of other Jewish writings.

Which Koran is it the Muslims read, the first that has not historical validity to even exist or the second one, the one you have now? If the Bible had that issue; it would be at best historical literature.

Still can’t figure out how many days it took Allah to create the heavens and earth or was it just the earth, but their are definite contradictions concerning this. Were these literal days? I see it took 4 days to “calculate”; pretty slow for a god IMO.

Here is a cite to show you many other errors:
Here is a partial list from RZM; a highly regarded apologist.
rim.org/muslim/quranproblems.htm

If you are a woman; the Koran in no uncertain terms says you are inferior to a man and your “reward” in paradise is half that of a man; seems as though Allah has a biased against hi own human creation in favor of men…maybe his affections toward men is a real problem?
Women do not have equal right to their inheritance (Koran 4:11-12) Women receive half of the male share for an equivalent degree of kinship

Don’t forget to beat that woman when she needs a little “Home Correction”
“Good women are obedient… As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them.” (Koran 4:34)

Don’t forget men; be sure to fornicate, oh but wait in one area it says to and in another it says it is a sin; yet Muhammad 11 wives and was kind enough to allow for four wives to everyone else. Muhammad, who himself had 11 wives[19], allowed marriage of up to four wives. (Koran 33:51)
Code:
* "Of women who seem good in your eyes, marry but two, or three, or four; and if ye still fear ye shall not act equitably, then one only."
Islam also allows sexual intercourse with one’s slave maids and as many ‘captive’ women as one desires (Koran 4:3) - even if those women are married.

Part of the Koran, however, states that fornication and adultery are sin:
Code:
* "And go not nigh to fornication; surely it is an obscenity. And evil is the way." (Koran 17:32)
Muslim friends, you need to come to the One true God that offers the gift of Salvation through Faith in Jesus Christ and drop all of this foolishness. I can see as a male; the allure to the Muslim faith, but that is because it feeds off of your sinful nature, which is of the devil; therefore repent of your evil deeds and kneel down before the Lord almighty and beg Him for forgiveness; that you might be saved.**
