Why does God want us to glorify him?

Hi Hope,

I think anyone who created the universe, earth, mankind, is worthy of glory. No small feat being the creator, being God. That he puts up with all the garbage and the pride, the insults, the blasphemies, the murders and every form of sexual debasement and abuse imaginable, and yet still wants us back, well that is pretty magnificent! He has even forgiven me!

There isn’t a parent in the world who would put up with what he puts up with. Unconditional love in it’s purist form. When we fall which is often, it is not how many times it happens, rather it is the quality and depth of our remorse for having offended him that counts the most.

All we have to do for all of this is to follow some really modest rules. Don’t kill my other children, your brothers and sisters. Love and respect me, your true father, honor me, for I even gave my son’s life for you while his mother of tender heart, suffered a fate no mother should ever have to suffer, watching her beautiful son die.

So yeah, I think some glorification is in order, some obedience, and some love.

I love cheeseburgers.
Cheeseburgers make me happy.
Some cheeseburgers make me happier than others.
I like Wendy’s cheeseburgers better than McDonald’s cheeseburgers.
Wendy’s makes me happier than McDonald’s.
Somewhere out there, the perfect cheeseburger exists, and it will make me happier than Wendy’s.
I’m in search of the perfect cheeseburger to maximize my happiness.

God is the ultimate good. Knowing and loving Him makes us happier than anything else we can know and love. Not because He made us out of selfishness but because He loves us. Our happiness is maximized when we know and love the greatest good.
