Why does Islam consider Jesus a prophet?

Jesus was and is truly the Son of God. I often read about Muslims referring to Him as a “prophet”. I’m curious how and when this description of Jesus was established in Islam and what they believe He actually “prophesied”. Ostensibly Jesus was “great” enough to be awarded some level of distinction but not great enough to be seen as divine despite His fulfilling of the Old Testament, the Bible having been established, numerous writings from the early Fathers, etc. Can someone help me with understanding who in Islam determined this, what was the process of demoting Jesus to “prophet” status and what criteria were used? It appears certain parts of the Bible (e.g. Abraham, virginity of Mary) are viewed as Truth in Islam but most parts are deemed invalid.

Abraham taught his people to believe and worship in one God, as did all of the messengers. Jesus is one of those messengers whose mission was to call people back to the worship of one God. His basic mission was essentially the same as Abraham’s and the same as Mohamed’s. We dont believe that he is the son of God, as we believe that God does not beget, nor is begotten.

As I have suggested to you in another thread weeks ago to read about the concept, this post shows your lack of willingness to even attempt to learn about it.

Nowhere the Qur’an teaches that the spirit of God “overshadowed” Mary. It is a purely Biblical teaching as can be seen in Luke 1:35.

So, if this is the case than in the limited language of humans it would be said Jesus is the Son of God. Not really that hard to understand is it?

In our limited human language, the son comes after the father, in Christianity the son and the father existed both in eternity. Mary did not give birth to Jesus in eternity. So, was Jesus the son of God in eternity or did he become the Son of God when Mary gave birth to him? We are struggling to understand what this kind of sonship is .

The status of Jesus (PBUH) was determined by Allah (SWT).
Jesus (PBUH) was not only a prophet but also a messenger to the Children of Israel. The status of that Mighty Messenger can be clearly seen in the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam.

Muslims can not get there head aroundthe concept of the Trinity they believe we worship 3 Gods because it is written in the Koran. So the Author of the Koran had to also assign Jesus a roll so he became a prophet.

from our misery…to be with a Holy God, we must be sinless…since we cannot by our own deeds, God saved us himself provided that we accept his salvation and work accordingly…deeds do not make you holy…only God can make you holy…Jesus took a human nature to give us a godly one.

It would seem to me to be a little silly to accept Christ as a prophet and not follow Christ’s words. Christ broke bread and had wine at the Last Supper and called it His Body and Blood. Does the average Muslim believe this? If not why hold Christ up as a prophet? Peter called Christ the Son of the Living God. Christ praised Peter for recognizing this. Does the average Muslim believe this? If not why hold Christ up as a prophet. The divine conception of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit that fell upon St. Mary. Does the average Muslim believe this? If not why do they hold Mary in such high regard? There are sooooo many passages in scripture that would make Muslims shy away from it because there is so much emphasis on Love and how to treat other fellow human beings. No, Muslims may say they recognize Christ as a prophet but it is an empty recognition. For prophets are to be followed and read and emulated.
