Why does no one recognise the risen Jesus

Seems reasonable for sure. Then there’s Jesus showing Himself “in another form” too (Mark 16:9 ish?) that’s intriguing me I think.
Maybe there is no answer, maybe there are lots of answers? It’s just really sucked me in for some reason!

Jesus chose to reveal Himself to different people in different ways following His resurrection.

He certainly did look differently, as Mary did not recognize Him, but thought He might be the gardener. But when Jesus spoke to her, “Mary!” she recognized His voice immediately.

The manifestation / showing / theophany / revelation to His disciples walking to Emmaus was given during the breaking of the bread. So they neither recognized His appearance nor His voice.

Recall that the LORD revealed Himself to the Chosen People gradually, over time, a little bit at a time. This was done to help them learn in manageable ways.
The same can be seen in Jesus revealing His resurrected, glorified body to His chosen ones a little bit at a time, starting with Mary, etc.
How blessed are we to have the revelation of Christ our True God, and to commune with Him every Sunday in sacred mysteries!

To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed (Is 53:1),

Do not say, “never to return,” for He will return in the same manner as He departed, and this is our Blessed Hope. Indeed, it is in order that we be raised to life on the Last Day that He gives us His Body and Blood as food and drink.

Why does no one recognise Jesus after the Resurrection?
But they all did recognize Him.
It’s simply not true to say that “no one” recognised Jesus.

And if it’s just a matter of folks not recognising Him instantly/immediately that’s a quibbling. Straining gnats. So what if it takes more than a nano-second to recognise someone?

Note also that taking a few moments to gradually recognise Jesus is vastly different to mistaking Jesus for someone else or saying… hey you, youre not Jesus, I would recognise Jesus and you’re not Him.

We are given two different scenarios in the Gospels.

One is the stories of people who have died and are brought back from the dead. They are not resurrected; but brought back to continue their life, and eventually die.

The second is the stories of the resurrected Christ. He is resurrected, not resuscitated; he will not die again.

And so we say Christ has a resurrected body, and it is “the same but not the same”. We have the Apostles and disciples experiences and their observations, not explanations. It is the same in that he had the wounds - including a spear wound that was not healed over and not bleeding; not the same as he could pass through walls; he could bi-locate (Emmaus and the Upper Room). Physical bodies can’t do that, so he did not have a physical body; he had a resurrected body which will never die, which has properties we do not have, and it is for our contemplation - which does not mean, “our explanation”, as if we could resolve what is truly a mystery.
