Why does not the media advertise libido reducing drugs the way they do Viagra?

Anti-depressants, such as Paxil, drastically reduces the libido without devastating side-effects.
Paxil changes who you are and can lead to dependence. It isn’t something you would take without a serious reason. I suppose you can say, what is more serious than your immortal soul? But how much is chastity going to help you if you’ve only been chaste because of a pill?

It would seem to me to be quite a bit of money in that.** I think there are many males who would prefer to have a reduced sex drive,** but the option is not there.
Really? I disagree.
That should be a pretty interesting commercial!

Are you tired of always wanting to have sex? Do your sexual perversions interfere with your life? Does the mere sight of a female over thirteen distract you from your daily tasks? You’re not alone! Ask your doctor if Droopia is right for you!

Perhaps the drug companies think that population might be better reached through pamphlets at a therapist’s or doctor’s office. (Or from a judge’s bench)
Droopia.

:rotfl:

I can picture the commercial:

Guy sitting in a beach chair next to his wife. Along comes a group of 3 smoking-hot twenty-something women is skimpy bikinis. They stroll right by the couple. The man glances up briefly, smiles, then goes back to his Wall Street Journal. After the young lovlies walk out of sight, the wife smiles at him, then gets back to her romance novel.

The guy turns away from his wife, and shielded by his newspaper winks at the camera. The voiceover says, “What’s his secret? Droopia. (then goes into all the legal mumbo-jumbo disclaimers that they’re required to say)”

lol Maybe I watch too much Mad Men…or SNL.
Another question, sorry for hijacking, would the use of such medicine be approved of by the Church?
Not approved, but not rejected, similar to any antidepressant drug.

**May **reduce libido, or is likely to. Not a given.
I asked a pharmacist about this one time, and he told me that there are no drugs marketed for the reduction of the libido in males. Furthermore, the prescription of a drug for an unapproved off-label use is illegal. At least that’s what I’ve been told.
Regardless of what the FDA certified the drug for, a physician can use it for other purposes. My psychiatrist, for example, uses the anti-depressant Paxil on sex offenders for a reduction of libido. My psychiatrist also uses drugs certified for schizophrenia on me for my anxiety.

What’s a “normal libido” in a sex-crazed society?
There are guidelines in which toff-label use of prescription medication is used; physicians need to have some evidence that such a use is likely to work, is safe, and that there are no other approved medications that will work equally as well or better for that particular patient under that patient’s circumstances.

Part of that, for the physician is following medical ethical guidelines, another part is liability management.

I don’t think that is accurate, at least not in the United States. The US government does not mandate a formulary which dictates that only certain drugs may be prescribed for certain uses.

A few years ago, the FDA even issued an advisory warning against the off-label use of quinine for the treatment of leg cramps.
Due to continued reports of serious side effects in patients using Qualaquin “off-label” (a non-FDA-approved use) for night time leg cramps, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a risk management plan to warn against the use of this drug for such unapproved uses. Qualaquin should not be used for night time leg cramps.

Being a sex-crazed society has nothing to do with whether one’s libido is normal or not. It is simply tempting one to misuse what one has for purposes of feeding greed.

Oddly enough, many people with healthy libidos manage to stay off porn, remain faithful to their spouses, and control their urges and direct them towards appropriate situations.

Just looking here on CAF at all the people who have masturbation/porn addictions makes me think that that it would be a worthwhile drug to market. It should at least be made available to people, over the counter preferred, so that those who do want it can have it. The cost could be implemented according to sales, such that the more that it sells the less it costs.

Yes, there are many with “normal” sex drives that remain faithful, but there are also many more, with abnormally intense libidos, who do not.

Finally, this could be a drug that can be used to treat premature ejaculation, since erections are still possible but just take more “work” to achieve ejaculation.

.
Do you realize how much it costs to bring a drug to market? Millions.

Do you realize how much we Catholics, let alone those who have such addictions are in the minority?

I agree that it might be a helpful drug, but the economics dictate what goes on the pharmacy shelves, not just the nee.

In this case the drug, Paxil, is already manufactured. All that is needed is for it to be re-certified for reducing the libido.

Look at the porn industry and tell me that a lot of those addicted would not want an escape from the porn by using a libido reduction drug.

Several million is really a drop in the bucket compared to the social problem that exists.

Instead of giving condoms to third-world nations suffering from AIDS, perhaps a better solution would be a libido reducing medication. Perhaps the World Health Organization should read my proposal?

All the research, including clinical trials, would (almost) without exception have to be redone just to get that claim on the label.

I agree with you about the usefulness, but the economics don’t support the notion, mainly because secular society sees no need to control ourselves. 🤷

People must want the drug before it becomes certified for reducing the libido. IT TAKES EDUCATION! People need to be made aware that people’s libido may be abnormally high and that drugs, such as Paxil, can alleviate these symptoms. Right now, everybody is being indoctrinated into believing sex enhancement is what they really want; they are being duped! With proper education, people will come to see libido reducing drugs as a convenience. Again, it’s a good drug for dealing with AIDS in third-world countries. It can also be marketed as a treatment for premature ejaculation. The slogan: It makes sex last longer!
