Why does one hate the Catholic Church?

The SDAs I know don’t hate Catholic people.
No - they hate the Catholic Church.

**One only has to read their literature to know this, which is filled with lies, half-truths and a total perversion of Scripture and history to arrive t their anti-Catholic positions. **

Ellen G. White’s books and literature are filled with anti-Catholic hatred.

If you haven’t klearned anything about Catholicism from me or anybody else here - it because you have closed your mind and your heart to the truth.
**I am not **offering my own opnions here - just the facts as taught by the Church. 👍
Ummm; I said from you, meaning I have learned plenty from others. LOL; how I’d love it if you lived next door to me! I’d invite you over for tea and see how you say all you do in person!

**You’ve learned about the Catholic faith from ALL of us. **
The problem is, as an anti-Catholic - you choose not to believe it because the lie is so much juicier.

No they don’t but there is a little too much negative focus for my comfort. I mean I’m not talking about one specific SDA church, I’m talking about several…they also had alot of anti-Catholic like pamphlets and stuff. It was kind of strange maybe it’s just my area
I can appreciate your opinion and perception of whether there was hate or simple dislike but I have some basic questions that will, I think, help to more clearly define how SDA feels about the Catholic Church.
  1. Are other denominations the subject of conferences/powerpoint presentations?
  2. How often (%) is the Catholic Church the subject?
  3. How much of the time in these presentations is the Papacy the subject? Is that the focus of this literature most of the time? If not, then what is?
  4. Is the Catholic Catechism or any other authoritative Catholic reference material used as reference material during these presentations? Same for other denominations if they are also the subject of presentations.
My point being that if the Catholic Church is the primary focus of these presentations then it is reasonable to say SDA “hates” the Catholic Church. Additionally, saying that they don’t have Catholics is a bit naive (assuming the answers to the questions bear out what I believe to be accurate) cannot be since if they hate the Church and we are one body then they do hate the whole. Otherwise it’s like saying you hate your hand because it steals. Catholics are (should be) of one mind and in communion with Christ and His Church with the Pope as the visible head of that Church on earth. Does that make sense? I am not sure if I am communicating that properly.

And before anyone starts saying to cut off your hand or plucking out your eye if they cause you to sin, there is a lesson there that precludes mutilating yourself so put that one away.

Well; when the subject comes round to “heretics” and the like, one could say that Catholics also show “hatred” or they could say as I have explained above. I have been to many Adventist crusades; and the main topic at most of them has been Jesus. Your church makes the claims about being around since the apostles; so why wouldn’t someone dwell on the Catholic Church somewhat when explaining Bible prophecy? Believing that your church teaches unBiblical errors, simply is not hatred. I don’t know how you can say otherwise. You believe that I, my church, and any number of other churches teach unbiblical error, you proscribe and malign many a Protestant; yet I don’t see you accusing Catholics of hatred when they do this. I would never accuse Catholics of hatred when they say that my teachings are of the devil; or that my church isn’t really a church, etc etc etc…

Catholics are not “of one mind” as you try to say. One local newspaper here shows that in just one of a thousand ways we could do so. The views of Father Raymond deSouza and others show this clearly.

Your’s and other Catholic’s struggle to label as “hatred” may just be reflecting what is in your heart, not in mine.

Well; I don’t care to change anyone’s mind on this. I can only say what I know and believe. I see many of the views of the Catholic Church as pretty well equal to the worst of our’s you could name. But it’s all in how people choose to react to other beliefs.
The views of the Catholic Church are what exactly? I don’t understand what you mean, the way you worded this confused me.
You can call it “hate”
Maybe a clear definition of what is meant by the word “hate” is in order:

"hate (ht)
v. hat·ed, hat·ing, hates
v.tr.
1.
a. To feel hostility or animosity toward.
b. To detest.
2. To feel dislike or distaste for: hates washing dishes.
v.intr.
To feel hatred.
n.
  1. Intense animosity or dislike; hatred.
  2. An object of detestation or hatred: My pet hate is tardiness."
It’s my belief that a Christian calling someone the anti-Christ would you know, detest and have hositility toward that individual.
There isn’t a Catholic on this earth or on this forum who wouldn’t try to warn me if they thought something I believed was of the devil. And some have already tried. Do I look at that as “hate,” or do I choose to see it as them being concerned, and having a love for my soul? I have chosen to believe the latter; and I don’t see why Catholics cannot do the same - in fact I know many that do. That’s why I have been on this forum for 4 years.
So do you think Catholicism is a false religion?

I can appreciate your opinion and perception of whether there was hate or simple dislike but I have some basic questions that will, I think, help to more clearly define how SDA feels about the Catholic Church.
1. Are other denominations the subject of conferences/powerpoint presentations?
No.

2. How often (%) is the Catholic Church the subject?
100%

3. How much of the time in these presentations is the Papacy the subject? Is that the focus of this literature most of the time? If not, then what is?
Well it’s not as black and white as that. Technically the whole thing was about the papacy because they were basically saying that the pope and people of high positions in the Church were making up stuff, bringing Pagan beliefs, abusing their power, using people, etc.

4. Is the Catholic Catechism or any other authoritative Catholic reference material used as reference material during these presentations?
Yes they cited the Catechism. They were quite upset that Catholics are ‘allowed’ if you will, to be believe in evolution. They devoted a bit of time to that.

So do you think Catholicism is a false religion?
Does it really matter what I think? Those who wish to call my beliefs “hatred” will continue to do so. It’s not going to matter what I think or say. I believe I have said enough to show that it is wrong to label as “hate” anyone or anything that disagrees with you. Your church; while giving lipservice to saying other churches “are Christians;” actually does not really see it that way. We are “not true churches,” we are “separated brethren” we are “heretics” and we are told constantly on this forum how nothing we think or believe is even half right, that we have to be Catholic to “interpret” the scriptures, and on and on and on; yet you try to say that there is not animosity towards us? Do you really hope to convince anyone that you do not also see us as a “false religion?” You have already said so; and that’s why you are switching to Catholic. As I said before; if you wan to point that kind of finger at me, or at my church, just remember, there are still a few of your fingers all pointing right back at you.

Inspite of what anyone on this forum says; or what anyone from your Church says to me or about me, or about my Church; I still choose to believe the best, that they are not, in fact, manifesting hatred. 👍 You could follow suit; or you can choose to go some other path.

Does it really matter what I think?
It matters to me, that’s why I asked. When we know where we are coming from it makes communication clearer. I can understand your position more, and you can understand my position more, the more we know about eachother.
Those who wish to call my beliefs “hatred” will continue to do so.
FYI, I didn’t call your beliefs hatred because I simply do not know what your beliefs are or why you believe what you do.
We are “not true churches,”
I never said that.
we are “separated brethren”
That’s a fact, we are separated
we are “heretics” and we are told constantly on this forum how nothing we think or believe is even half right,
You are a heretic according to the Catholic Church. Ellen G. White and the gang are decendents of (not like literal bloodline) Martin Luther and his followers. All Protestants went against the Catholic Church and committed heresy.
that we have to be Catholic to “interpret” the scriptures, and on and on and on; yet you try to say that there is not animosity towards us? There is historical and logical evidence backing up my beliefs regarding the Catholic Church. I’ve been both an SDA and will be a Catholic, I have experience that cradle Catholics do not have so I am certainly not in the same boat. I don’t think SDA is a false religion per se, but there are false beliefs, An SDA is a Christian (you) and a Catholic is a Christian (me), we are both Christians, we should have that at least as a good common ground.

If you’re being honest - it IS hatred and prejudice.

**If you are a faithful SDA - you believe the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon of Revelation 17 and 18 - is that ***correct?
(The Great Controversy,
E. G. White, pg. 338). ***

**According to Ellen G. White, your founder - you also believe that the Antichrist spoken of in Book of Revelation would be the Pope - *correct?
(The Great Controversy, E. G. White, pg. 507-8). ***

She taught that the Pope’s title added up to the number 666 - the number of the beast:
Vicarius = 112; Filii = 53; Dei = 501 = 666.
What she failed to mention was that HER name also adds up to the number of the beast - 666:
Ellen = 100, Gould = 555, White = 11 = 666.

**This all means nothing, of course - but I’m using it to point to your entire Church’s hatred of the Catholic Church, based on your founder’s teachings and false prophecies. **
So, please, try not to pass yourself off as a person who respects the Cathloic Church - when your very theology exposes something else.

Please if I may offer my opinion. Protestant101 the fact of the matter is that we all want to be respected and we all want to be right. But there is only one Truth., so how is it that we share the same Lord but not the same Spirit?

Surely, without a doubt you will have Catholics that are passionate about what they believe and will manifest it in a certain way; to you it may come off as hatred and perhaps in some cases it may very well be. Nonetheless, many of the catholic posters are well informed of their faith and for the most part defend their beliefs unfailingly. If this is an unseeming quality in a believer then most of us are in trouble. However, I believe that one has to have “Love of thy neighbor” at the same time be true to oneself. We cannot profess to agree with other “denominations” simply to assuage their opinion, nor can we manifest any hostility because they are different.

I thank you for believing that we act, on the most part, out of concern for the soul of the individual. Everyone should care for one another regardless of creed and ethnicity.🙂

God Bless

saying that they don’t have Catholics is a bit naive (assuming the answers to the questions bear out what I believe to be accurate) cannot be since if they hate the Church and we are one body then they do hate the whole.
I’m not certain but was that a typo and you meant “saying that they don’t hate Catholics is a bit naive”? It looks like that might have been what you meant in the context and how it reads. I’m not sure though and forgive me if I am mistaken. But if so 😦 I have SDA friends who I don’t think hate me but I can call them tomorrow and ask. I kinda doubt they hate me because in a time of need following the death of my mother, one of them sure was there for me 24/7 the entire wk. And all the while I still have a Catholic here still saying he nails me and others because of of our “lies” when he probably should be focused less on me and more on Whom was nailed to the cross. But just IMHO. 🤷

**As I pointed out in posts 238 and 248, it is the SDA church that hates the Catholic Church. Their church was built on anti-Catholicism and all you need do is to go to their **founder’s (Ellen G. White) writings.

Her book, The Great Controversy is riddles with hatred, lies and other venom against Catholicism as well as the Pope.

**It’s not necessarily every individual within the SDA church that hates every Catholic. That would be a naive as claiming that every American hates every Iranian. **We may have disdain for the way they proliferate terrorism and subjugate their citizens as a nation but that cannot be blamed on every person within that country.

However - to deny that the SDA church is anti-Catholic is to live in abject denial.

Also from what I’ve been told, Prot 101 or Mariah can correct this though if I am mistaken, but I’ve been told SDAs do not exclude Catholics from heaven because only God knows the heart. Yet I’ve had a Catholic say I face eternal damnation for commtting mortal sin by missing Mass on Nov 1 if I don’t repent. Only God knows the heart or face eternal damnation? But if SDAs keep the door open to heaven for Catholics, that is hardly hate in my book. There is no hate in heaven.

Elvis, I have taken a SDA Bible study and have read some of EGW and other things SDA. I know SDAs who have been married to Catholics but I am not saying they are every SDA. I only thought Porath was saying if SDA hate the CC, then they hate us the body. But if I misread Porath’s post my heartfelt apologies to Porath.

An SDA is a Christian (you) and a Catholic is a Christian (me), we are both Christians, we should have that at least as a good common ground.
I have said this many times on this forum, so yes; we are in agreement on that. 🙂 LOL, but I would hesitate to say “all catholics” or “all Adventists” are Christian. Does that make sense?

Disagreement with beliefs doctrines in one thing.
Lies are a unacceptable.
Actually, you make no distinction between the two, in my observation.

Your actions do not match your words. There seems to be no way to express disagreement with anything about Catholicism without you claiming s/he is spreading lies.

If a person disagrees with something about the Catholic Church, you promptly accuse the person of spreading lies.

Originally, I was done with this thread. It has long ago left its topic and centered more on your personal attacks against whomever does not dance' to your tune’ enough.' Had you not run your mouth’ about me yet again, I would not have posted here again. If you really and truly want me to stop posting remarks on this thread, it is in your power.

You claim to be a “hard core Catholic” and you claim to be an avid defender of the Catholic Church. Devout Catholics I know never treat people like you do even if religious disagreement is an issue, and I know Catholicism teaches people better.

You are correct on that. None of our beliefs re prophecy or antiChrist would close the door to anyone who loves and follows Jesus; and I personally know Catholics who certainly seem to do just that.
