Why does the AP hate us?

More broadly, I sense some creeping paranoia about “everyone is out to get The Church” and, more disturbingly “this happens in other environments, too!” It reminds me very much of the Nixon crowd during Watergate. Nixon whined that everyone was out to get him and that everyone does it. I guess the fact that he was guilty as sin had nothing to do with it.

The best plan would be to come clean to everything. From the Pope on down taking personal responsibility for whatever happened. Emdure the inevitable “hits”, and it will eventually pass. That’s a hard and painful process. But it’s better than all of this dodging and covering up.
This is right on…

… However, Catholic clerics who hold themselves up before the world as role models that everyone should follow are just begging for a closer scrutiny as well as to be held to higher standards. …

By limiting your comment to Catholic clerics and not including clerics of other religions, you show that you yourself, as well as the media, are indeed out to get the Church.

I don’t know that the Associated Press hates all of us Catholics. They’ve never said an unkind world about me; nor, I suspect, about you. However, Catholic clerics who hold themselves up before the world as role models that everyone should follow are just begging for a closer scrutiny as well as to be held to higher standards. So such persons had better be sure they appear as pure as “Caesar’s wife.”

The Church has taken responsibility and apologized repeatedly. Also, Catholic clerics do not “hold themselves up before the world as role models that everyone should follow”.

This will never “pass” until the press is seriously held to account for fair reporting based on actual facts (that they didn’t invent). To believe they are impartial messengers would be naive. This is not creeping paranoia but simply digging into story after story after story after story… that purport widening scandal based upon, well, nothing.

How would you describe a situation in which a law is proposed to extend the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse for the Church but not for other institutions, like public schools, and the media ignore the latter? Just a coincidence?
… and, more disturbingly “this happens in other environments, too!”
This was not brought up as an excuse for the Church, but to show it wanted to eliminate all abuse by agreeing with the extension if it applied across the board. But no. The politicians and teachers unions refused; the media was silent, which leads me to conclude they are not interested in the children, but only in persecuting the Church.

“Everything”? “Whatever”? Should the Church leaders apologize for child sexual abuse that took place in public schools? Get real.

Beeeecaaause EVERYONE hates us?

Ok, no, not everyone, but we’re one of the media’s favorite whipping boys

The real whore is not the Church. Are we murdering people? What world religion is in power in many countries in the middle east. I don’t have to save the name of the whore. She’s the leader of Iran and why other christians (I swallow hard saying that) don’t see it coming from Them is a mystery they will wake up to one day and find themselves wearing the garb of the veil. A Catholic did not saw off a young man’s head for the world to enjoy. Their is your whore.

While it’s ok to make fun of Jesus in any fashion or form, the protectors of the whore hunt you down and try to murder you for a cartoon. They are the whore’s legion. One last point, what religion is waging war against all those who do not follow their faith. It is not the Roman Catholic Church. Look toward the east and see the whore under the cresant moon. Piety, heroin from the crimson poppy is their tonic. Look into this (try a back issue of Vanity Fair’s artical on Iran; they import more opium than any country on earth. They don’t drink. What do they do with all the opium? The whore warms and caresses them with it.

course not, you willy. That’s hardly biblical XD
Did I say the media is Biblical? 🤷

I think they would have to invent us for a simple reason: their moral code demands it.

When communism failed, Leftists in the free world were faced with a dilemma: how not to admit defeat in the face of the evidence. Since they couldn’t admit defeat and move on to something else [their pride prevents it], they took Leninism and applied it to culture as opposed to economics.

So the class struggle was made to continue; this time it was to be between those who are perceived to have power and those who are perceived not to. A person’s [or institution’s] morality was redefined from the character of his/its actions to the inverse of his/its perceived degree of power. Christianity in general, and Catholicism in particular, are perceived by the Left to be powerful, therefore immoral, institutions. “Political correctness” is one form of cultural Leninism; that’s why it makes no sense. [The truth of the Duke lacrosse team’s “guilt” was not determined by any of its members’ actions, but because of their group membership, i.e., “privileged, white, male”. Likewise, the prostitute had to have been a “victim” because of her group membership, “poor, minority, female”. For an amusing exploration of this concept, check out this video: http://www.hulu.com/watch/10356/saturday-night-live-white-like-me .]

Since the Left is operating from a position of weakness, it must paint something as evil in order for it to gain power itself. And that, in a nutshell, is why they would have to invent us if we didn’t exist.

DISCOVERED!! And the A.P. promised me better cover because they said I was one of the “good ones.” :crying:

The Associated Press and Reuters do not simply gather news. They have editors and owners with a clear bias. I don’t think they “hate” anyone but produce material to please their owners and consumers. News is a product. If the source desires to appeal to Leftists, then it will paint the story in a different light. There is this mythology out there that the media simply reports the news. There is good evidence that it provides some information but can put it in a bad light. “If it bleeds it leads” is one maxim. Emphasize kids getting killed or some disaster, and the odds of viewers not changing the channel decreases. The more eyeballs they have, the more they can charge for advertising. The same for newspapers. The news has become infotainment, not just the facts, although they are usually in there, plus bias.

God bless,
Ed

Well, there really is something to it, you know.

For those that don’t know, the counties surrounding NYC have tiny ‘hamlets’ of Jewish sects subscribing to the ““ultra-orthodox”” beliefs of the Chassidic rebbe-dynasties and Besht. These are the Jews who responded to the Holocaust by emigrating to the US and refusing to assimilate in any form–whatsoever–because they saw what happened to their Reformed/Conservative/Secular brethren when they attempted to assimilate into German/Austrian/Polish culture. They were still killed for being Jews.

With them, however, the Chassidim have brought a medieval culture that many of us would find uncultured, backwoods, and (frankly) smelly. Like the ‘old country’, their standards for what is ‘fair game’ in terms of potential mates, as well as their keep-it-in-the-community approach to scandals makes sex abuse justice problematic.

In fact, the good councilmen (Dems, of course) in NYC have allocated the various sects in question A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY, our money as tax payers, to fight sex abuse and improve sex education. This money has not been spent–and given their track record (there was a major scandal in the Clinton era when they were misspending federal money to build more yeshivas)–it will probably go somewhere different. And–when they are caught–Chassidic men with yarmulkas and payotis will continue to fill sex-offender rehabilitation classrooms. Don’t believe me? Look at documentary footage.

Or, here: thejc.com/news/world-news/29668/funds-combat-orthodox-community-sex-abuse in this Reformed Jewish periodical.

Such things are rarely reported largely because there are a great deal of Jews working for major news outlets (owning them, as well as working for them in some cases), and their colleagues are sensitive to their issues. Also, I believe, because it is difficult to explain this strange, exotic community living on our doorstep. The public would likely misinterpret the article and believe that all Jews share in these problems, which isn’t the case. Except in Israel, where the Charedi population (along with Arabs) will soon make up 48% of all elementary school-age students.

Nevertheless, these are not the Jewish angels we are taught about in elementary school (Anne Frank, ‘Number the Stars’). There have been repeated citations for child-bride-esque cases in these communities. All of this, when the Catholic Church is routinely condemned in every corner, and weirdo Mormons (a few years ago) are RAIDED by domestic intelligence agencies.

But I haven’t heard a peep from NYT, AP, Reuters. Largely, I believe (realistically), because they wear yarmulkes and not zuchettos.

If your response to this is: “Here is X article, from 300 years ago, in the 54th page of the NYT.” My response will be: “Where are the other 400 front page articles they’ve devoted to us?”

Its time to re-think the Church and how much we owe it. Purge it of the scum, but keep it amongst ourselves. We don’t have to apologize to the world which we built, under God. These people–seculars, Jews, Protestants, etc.–might mean well in hyping up our flaws, but know this: they’ll also want a say in how we run things.

Note, also, the AP have been reporting on the Boy Scouts of America cases… another “right-wing group”… so we won’t be able to say the obvious: why us?

… I don’t think they “hate” anyone but produce material to please their owners and consumers.
Yes they do hate; they hate the military as well as the Church. If they produce material to please their consumers, where was Dan Rather going with his story about Bush missing reserve meetings? His own story was taking Rather down like Moby Dick took down Capt. Ahab, yet he persisted when over 50% of the public favored Bush. Was Rather out to please just his owners?

What about truth? Where does that come in? Or are we to accept what Barbara Walters said of Peter Jennings in his eulogy, “The thing about Peter is that he knew there is no such thing as the truth!”? And what about 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the stories “painted” to appeal to Leftists when only about 28% of the population describes themselves as “very liberal”?
There is this mythology out there that the media simply reports the news…
There are still people who believe this myth?

I think we might disagree on whether they hate or not, but I think we can agree they have an agenda, and that agenda is not in favor of the American people.

Really? Do you not know why? AP is of the world. The world will always hate that which is not of the world.

John 15:18
If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you. 19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

“There is more truth on the label of a can of tomatoes than in your average newspaper.” – Ben Hecht, Gaily, Gaily, his autobiography about his life as a cub reporter on the Chicago Tribune c. 1910 – over a half century before the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act.

Pick up a copy of The Creation of the Media by Paul Starr. I remember seeing Dan Rather reporting from Afghanistan with the “freedom fighters.” The trade journal Publisher’s Weekly should just have a hammer and sickle next to the title.

Only recently has Communist infiltration of the United States government been exposed.

The Lefists are looking for converts.

God bless,
Ed

We keep hearing about how “traditional” media, i.e. newspapers, “respected” news outfits like the New York Times, AP, Reuters, etc are all going down the tubes, and haven’t found a way to make money in the age of the internet, “free” online news, blogs, and hyperlocal. So maybe the AP sees this as a way to stay “relevant”. There is a lot of deep-seeded anti-Catholicism in the US, so what better way than to find some stories that connect nuggets of real scandal with long-standing suspicions and prejudices of Catholics.

That said I think that maybe 20-30 years hence this will make the Church stronger. It is irritating to see AP chumming the water to drive the media feeding frenzy, but the abuse that really happened is dispicable, and absolutely must be rooted out. Maybe the media continuing to harp on it is what it will take for every last bishop to realize that it’s not just something that happens in other diocese in other countries, but that every bishop needs to be proactive to prevent it in his own diocese. We can’t do anything about the fact that this happens with Protestants, Mormons, Jews, teachers, doctors, or anyone else, but we are called to be holy, and we can’t tolerate or make excuses for any behavior like this.
